Daniil Medvedev’s search for his second career Grand Slam continues, as he is through to the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second consecutive year after last night.
The Russian scored one of the biggest Wimbledon 2024 results when he knocked out Jannik Sinner in five sets at Centre Court. The pre-game Wimbledon 2024 odds had Sinner as the favourite to win since he is the No. 1 player in the world.
Elsewhere, Carlos Alcaraz is also through to the semi-finals, while Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarter-finals. With Sinner eliminated, both of them can make inroads to the top spot in the ATP rankings.

Medvedev survives five-set thriller against Sinner
After losing in each of his past five meetings against Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev finally broke his duck with a 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 victory last night.
It looked like history was about to repeat itself at the start after Jannik Sinner won the opening set, but Daniil Medvedev fought back and claimed the second and third sets.
Sinner was treated by the doctor during the third set when the young Italian got a medical timeout. The world no. 1 player played on, but it was clear that he wasn’t at 100-per cent fitness.
After the timeout, Sinner returned and forced a fifth set by winning 85-per cent of points of his first delivery and all five on his second, but an early break by Medvedev gave the momentum back to the 2021 US Open winner.
Medvedev took advantage of his opponent’s drop in intensity, helping him secure his first win over the Italian since the 2023 Miami final. The Russian not only broke his drought against Sinner, but he also now has seven victories over top-ranked opponents in his career.
Daniil Medvedev is set to square off against Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals, in the next round on Friday evening.
Eventful Tuesday for Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon title defence is well and alive after beating Tommy Paul 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in their quarter-finals showdown in Court 1 last night.
The 21-year-old Spaniard endured a slow start, losing the first set to Paul, but he eventually regained his bearings in the second set and never looked back.
Overall, it is good to see Alcaraz back at 100-per cent fitness. The world no. 3 finished the match against Paul with 36 winners, including 19 via his forehand. Earlier this season, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a niggling forearm injury, which caused him to withdraw in a handful of events against his will.
Before facing Tommy Paul, Carlos Alcaraz went through adversity since he needed five sets to eliminate Frances Tiafoe in the third round and four sets to defeat Ugo Humbert in the Round of 16.
But with his latest victory, Alcaraz has momentum on his side, and for sure, he will give Daniil Medvedev all he could handle.
Alcaraz is in a jovial mood ahead of his blockbuster clash against Daniil Medvedev because he also got to watch the Spanish national football team beat Les Bleus in the Euro 2024 semi-finals last night.
Djokovic wants his respect after dominant QF performance
Novak Djokovic had yet another impressive performance at Wimbledon as he defeated Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, but he was not in the mood to celebrate even after the victory.
Djokovic took issue with the crowd that was largely rooting for his Danish opponent, as their “Ruuuuunee” chant made it sound like they were fervently booing the seven-time Wimbledon winner.
“I don’t accept it. No. I know they were cheering for Rune, but that’s an excuse to also boo. Listen, I’ve been on the tour for more than 20 years, so trust me, I know all the tricks. I know how it works. It’s fine, it’s okay,” Djokovic said in the post-match interview.
“I’ve played in a much more hostile environment, trust me. You guys can’t touch me,” the 24-time Grand Slam winner added.
Djokovic may have lost it against the crowd in the end, but no one can take away the fact that it was his night.
Prior to yesterday, the 37-year-old underwent surgery for a torn meniscus last month, and he had looked hampered by a stomach issue during the actual match. After dispatching Holger Rune, Novak Djokovic will now play Alex de Minaur on Wednesday for a spot in the semi-finals.
