Miami Open Women’s QF
Familiar names will be featured in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open, with top seeds Angelique Kerber and Karolina Pliskova headlining Wednesday’s live betting showdown.
Certainly, it won’t lack star power in Key Biscayne with the likes of online betting sweethearts Caroline Wozniacki, Simona Halep and Venus Williams also competing to give the two a run for their money. Not to mention that veterans and giant slayers Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and Lucie Safarova are there as well to surprise betting websites with some vintage performances.
Mirjana Lucic-Baroni vs Karolina Pliskova
Don’t let Lucic-Baroni’s age fool you. She might be 35, but she is playing like in her heydeys back in the late nineties!
She could very well be Pliskova’s biggest test so far in the tournament, considering that she still has the power and speed to upset the World No.3. Her forehand also remains a deadly weapon when it’s clicking, making her a more formidable opponent for the 25-year-old.
Pliskova can rattle Lucic-Baroni with her powerful serves and groundstrokes, but the fact that the latter defeated her in their Australian Open meeting last January will make it difficult. With that said, I think Lucic-Baroni should be a solid bet on Game Handicap +4.00@1.98.
Caroline Wozniacki vs Lucie Safarova
These two have played a lot of tight matches over the years, so this one should be no different.
Wozniacki, however, looks to be in better form with the consistency she has been showing this year. She also hasn’t dropped a single set in the tournament, even benefitting from the early retirement of Garbine Muguruza the last time out.
Of course, Safarova can’t be counted out especially after she took down No.4 Dominika Cibulkova in the Round of 16. Nonetheless, playing on a slower surface such as the one in Miami gives Wozniacki the advantage over the clay-loving Czech.
Wozniacki on Asian Handicap -1.50@2.05 sounds good.
Simona Halep vs Johanna Konta
Coming from a knee injury that slowed her down early this year, Halep seemed a little bit rusty as she was pushed to the brink by Naomi Osaka and Sam Stosur before emerging victorious and booking her spot to the last eight.
There’s no denying that Halep is an intelligent player as she has proven in her three-set win over Stosur, but with Konta in great form – with her service and return game at its peak – the Romanian can’t afford to falter this time. Though, it wouldn’t help in her confidence that the British top seed won their only meeting last 2015.
Angelique Kerber vs Venus Williams
Kerber is looking to redeem herself after a slow start this season, and what could be a better way to do it than a match with home hero Venus Williams who is in a renaissance of her own?
Sure enough, the meeting of these two with contradicting styles will set fireworks in Florida. Williams’ all-court offence and aggressive baseline game will certainly test Kerber’s defence and top-notch returns.
However, although Williams will find some solace that she is 2-1 against Kerber on the hard surface, the German World No.1 will still have the psychological advantage given her 4-2 head-to-head record against the American, with her latest win a two-set semi-final victory on Venus’ favourite grass court of Wimbledon.
