Now This is What Boxing is All About!

The Saul “Canelo’ Alvarez versus Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight was dubbed as the battle between the best of the best, and it lived up to its billing with a mouthwatering live betting showdown at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Sports betting experts and the online gambling faithful will certainly scrutinize the scoring for a long time, especially after it ended in a split draw with the ever controversial Adalaide Byrd judging it 118-110 in favour of Canelo despite the Mexican not winning at least 10 rounds.

Amid this controversy, however, props should be given to both fighters for a remarkable boxing match that will certainly make purists rank it as one of the best and most exhilarating of this generation.

Alvarez came into the match looking to put a dent on Golovkin’s record, and he showed his determination right from the start as he neutralised GGG’s renowned power with great counterpunching and speedy footwork.

Nonetheless, it didn’t last long for the younger boxer as the 35-year-old WBA middleweight champion found his rhythm in the third round and was locked in from there.

GGG was relentless in his attacks as he kept pressuring Canelo, even pushing the 27-year-old to the ropes at times and punishing him with a barrage of combination punches. Alvarez was then left with no other choice but to defend and circle around the ring to lessen the damage.

Golovkin undoubtedly took over and dictated the action in the middle rounds, but Alvarez was able to hold his ground as he traded shot after shot and threw counters, all while mixing his punches with body blows.

The last two rounds were particularly intense as Canelo took advantage of his Kazakh opponent who appeared to be gassing out; however, GGG continued to move forward and work hard, even though Alvarez was landing huge shots in the closing seconds.

The other judges Dave Moretti scored the bout 115-113 in favour of Golovkin while Don Trella had it a draw at 114-114.

With the split draw, Golovkin retains his WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight straps which were put on the line in this match. His win-loss-draw record, nevertheless, is now at 37-0-1.

For Alvarez, meanwhile, he keeps his Ring Magazine middleweight belt while getting just the second draw of his career.

Talks of a rematch, though, immediately came into the spotlight as both fighters agreed in principle to have another go at it following the questionable outcome.

“Of course I want a rematch. I wanted a fight. I want a true fight,” Golovkin said after the fight.
