Has the Supercopa whetted your appetite? Well, there’s plenty more of that to come! La Liga is off and running again this weekend and I can’t wait.
Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid are odds on at 1.75 with Asian handicap betting to win La Liga but Barcelona are ready to grab back the title.
WEEK 1 SATURDAY:
Leganes vs Alaves
The biggest games come on Sunday, but we start with a cracker in Madrid with Leganes hosting Copa del Rey finalists Alaves. The minnows did well to survive last season and are fancied to make a winning start again at betting odds of 2.13, with Alaves at 3.45 and 3.25 the draw.
Valencia vs Las Palmas
The fans at the Mestalla are among the most demanding in football and after a lacklustre season last year, they’ll be on the hunt for a fast start this season. Las Palmas never fail to provide entertainment and that’s set to continue having secured the services of Spain winger Vitolo from Atletico Madrid.
WEEK 1 SUNDAY:
Celta Vigo vs Real Sociedad
Celta Vigo’s season rather fizzled out and pre-season had been underwhelming until a 4-1 thumping of Italian giants Roma at the weekend. Former Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj arrives at Real Sociedad having been relegated from the Premier League with Sunderland.
Girona vs Atletico Madrid
Girona are favourites to go down at 1.75 but should take heart from Leganes’ heroic efforts last year. What a start for the new boys when Diego Simeone’s Atletico come to town, with star man Antoine Griezmann still with the Champions League outfit.
Sevilla vs RCD Espanyol
Sevilla will join Atletico in the Champions League, finishing fourth last season, and have strengthened their firepower with the arrival of goal scorer Luis Muriel. Espanyol had a strong season finishing eighth and will hope to improve on that this term.
WEEK 1 MONDAY:
Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe
Newly-promoted Getafe have a tough start on their return to the top division with a visit to Athletic Club, who finished seventh last season. The omens aren’t good for the visitors having lost the last five against Betis, scoring just two goals while conceding 11.
Barcelona vs Real Betis
Ernesto Valverde still hopes to bring Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar but he has already added former Spurs midfielder Paulinho, after a successful spell in China, and Gerard Deulofeu from Everton. This game is a free hit for Real Betis at massive odds of 19.00!
Deportivo La Coruna vs Real Madrid
The champions will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening four fixtures after his SuperCopa sending off, but ZZ has plenty of talent to call upon with Isco likely to deputise and Gareth Bale ready for action. Depor had a poor season by their standards and are hoping to improve by bringing Lucas Perez back from Arsenal.
WEEK 1 TUESDAY:
Levante vs Villarreal
The Segunda Division winners welcome the Yellow Submarine after the visitors missed out on Champions League football for this season. Villarreal have made a real coup though in the signing of Carlos Bacca, who scored 31 goals in his two years at AC Milan.
Malaga vs Eibar
The weekend’s fixtures come to a close with a game which was a mid-table battle last season, as Malaga finished 10th, a place above Eibar. The hosts won this fixture 2-1 last time, and after a friendly win over Villarreal at the weekend will hope for a repeat.
