Serie A: The Rematch Juventus Have Been Waiting For

It’s quite an achievement to be able to humble Juventus this Serie A season, as they’ve been on a tear since the campaign began. Only one outfit has been able to pull the Old Lady back to earth, and it’s none other than Alessio Dionisi’s Sassuolo.

Neroverdi are living rent-free in the minds of Allegri’s boys, but they have a chance to avenge their humbling defeat in their upcoming Matchday 20 clash. Juventus are collectively making strides this term and are slowly creeping up to Martinez’s Inter Milan at the top of the league standings.

Meanwhile, it’s been a one-man show for Sassuolo for the past few weeks. Andrea Pinamonti has been single handedly carrying Neroverdi since last month, but his real test will be against the bulwark defence of Allegri’s Juventus.

But in recent weeks, another one of Dionisi’s players has stepped up. Garnering seven goals in the season and singlehandedly scoring Sassuolo’s top-flight goals since Matchday 17, Andrea Pinamonti is shaping up to be one of the best forwards in Italy.

The 24-year-old is the main catalyst in Neroverdi’s hot start to the year. Against Fiorentina, Pinamonti took matters into his own hands by scoring the only goal of the match right off the bat, and that win served as a pivotal triumph for Sassuolo as they yearned to climb the league table one matchday at a time.

In fact, Pinamonti was the one responsible for Sassuolo’s go-ahead goal against Juventus during an emphatic win against Juventus last year, and it will be interesting to see if he can replicate his brilliance in their upcoming rematch at Allianz Stadium.

Juventus out for vengeance

Massimiliano Allegri’s outfit is one of the hottest teams in Italy right now, winning four of their last five Serie A matches, and poses the only threat to the league-leading Inter Milan. They boast a 14-4-1 record, which is more than enough to make them one of the convincing title contenders this season.

But they’ll be facing the only team that made them step down on their pedestal and put a blemish on their supposed perfect record this term.

The Old Lady suffered their only defeat in the season so far against a striving Sassuolo team that took turns scoring goal after goal against their world-famous defence. Neroverdi stunned the mighty Juventus by scoring four goals against their humbled defence in what is probably their best performance of the season thus far.

Now, with a blemish on their record, Juventus are surely itching to avenge their loss against the 5-4-10 Sassuolo squad that might be up for a big 2024. But despite suffering their only loss in the season thus far back in September, the Old Lady continued their stellar campaign, winning six of their next seven games. So, expect a fortified defence and a goal-hungry Vlahovic when they host their Italian rivals at Allianz Stadium.

History

These clubs have faced each other across multiple competitions 24 times since 2013, and in those matches, Juventus have won the majority of them. Sassuolo have managed to win and tally a draw four, while Juve have been able to win 16 times.

During their last outing, Sassuolo stunned the Old Lady at Mapei Stadium by thrashing the Serie A favourites with a score line of 4-2. It was a messy game, but Sassuolo’s offence came through, taking 18 attempts at the goal, with seven of those attempts going on target.

In recent form, Sassuolo started the year right with an important win over Fiorentina, and they’re hoping for similar Serie A 2024 results when they visit Allianz Stadium this week. This is a good sign for Sassuolo fans to see the club quickly bounce back from a thrilling defeat against Milan.

Meanwhile, Juventus continued where they left off in the new year, pulling off a come-from-behind win against Salernitana at Stadio Arechi. Vlahovic scored the winning goal in the first minute of added time, stealing the win in front of stunned Granata fans.
