Serie A: Inter and Atalanta Slated in a High-Scoring Showdown

Inter Milan vs Atalanta

Up to this day, the title race in Serie A is still tight with Inter Milan and Juventus battling neck-to-neck. Both of these teams stand at the top with 45 points each.

The Nerazzurri, of course, will be keen on starting the year 2020 with a bang. But it won’t come easy this time as they’ll face an in-form Atalanta squad on Sunday, albeit on their home pitch in San Siro.

The Orobici have been playing out of their minds as of late as they’ve won four of their last five matches. But what’s more impressive on their run is that they’ve dominated their opponents by posting high-scoring clean sheets against them.

Atalanta have improved to the fifth spot at the standings with 34 points and they could overtake AS Roma should they upset the Nerazzurri on Sunday.

SBOBET brings to you the preview of this highly-anticipated match.

Talking Points

Inter aggressive on adding reinforcements

It’s safe to say that Inter Milan will do almost anything to stop Juventus from winning their eighth title in a row.

The Nerazzurri have had their chances to break away from the pack, but they have failed to build a comfortable lead after a couple of letdowns.

Their best chance really was their game against AS Roma. But for some reason, neither team netted a single goal. Since then, the Nerazzurri notched a draw against Fiorentina while they’ve dominated the likes of Genoa and Napoli.

Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have found their dangerous scoring form anew as they compile more Serie A 2020 highlights, and they are expected to continue to lead their team in the attack with 23 goals between them.

Leaving no things to chance, team manager Antonio Conte continues to do his due diligence in trying to fortify his roster. Their first step was securing a handshake deal with Chelsea Olivier Giroud for a provisional contract that would last for more than two years.

The 33-year-old striker was left hanging to dry in Stamford Bridge especially since Frank Lampard has decided to give guys like Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic the keys to their attack. Nonetheless, the Frenchman should provide veteran leadership and he can still do it at a high level.

Another possible deal in the works for Inter is their rumoured interest on Manchester United’s Ashley Young. In what could be one of the strangest transfers for the squad, several sources indicated that the 34-year-old defender has signed a pre-contract agreement with Inter.

I’m not really sure on how he could help the squad at the back given his dwindling athleticism. So Inter should be smart enough to not give him a lot of money if this comes into fruition.

Atalanta finally get their rhythm

From the time that Atalanta got healthier, the Gian Piero Gasperini-coached squad has been firing on all cylinders in their past few games.

Atalanta blasted 10 goals in their last two games, and their free-firing ways will take aim at Inter Milan this weekend. Their back-to-back 5-0 victories against AC Milan and Parma were the first time that a club has posted that scoreline in Serie A for two successive times since 1960.

Sunday sees Atalanta visit Inter Milan at San Siro
Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic hits the post with a shot

They are Serie A’s leading scorers already with 48 goals so far this season, and much of their success can be owed to the dangerous duo of Josip Ilicic and Luis Muriel who have 19 goals between them.

But despite their recent success – winning four of their last five – Gasperini is adamant that the team still has long ways to go to consider themselves one of the league’s top contenders.

“There is an important growth of the team. We need to stay humble but it’s also true that we believe [in] what we are doing,” said Gasperini after their match against Parma.

“Perfection doesn’t exist, but I’m convinced that we can improve in many small ways,” he added.

Atalanta will be tested once more against the Serie A league leaders, and Gasperini’s men look confident enough to win.

History

Inter Milan and Atalanta have faced each other 34 times where the former has won in 18 while the latter has won in seven along with nine draws.

The Nerazzurri has yet to defeat the Orobici in Serie A since November 2017.

Betting Tip

??
Inter Milan vs Atalanta Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.00
January 12, 03:45 (GMT+8)

The Serie A 2020 odds point to an Inter Milan win as they’re placed at 2.48 while Atalanta are at 4.10. Chances of a draw, meanwhile, are at 2.21 in the 1×2 market.

With the way both of these teams are playing lately, this should be closer than most would think. I also expect this to be a high-scoring fixture since this match will feature some of Serie A’s topnotch scorers.

It’s hard to predict on who will emerge victorious on this one, but we can expect both of these clubs to score goals galore. So a two to three-goal total should be a safe bet here.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
