Premier League: Tottenham Plan to Sustain Solid Start by Extending Wolves’ Winless Run

Tottenham will use all their pent up energy against the Wolves in trying to get their second win of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

Last weekend’s “Battle at the Bridge” proved to be as good as advertised as tempers flared between Tottenham and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, especially when Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte had a heated confrontation at full-time.

Harry Kane was the Spurs’ hero since he scored the equaliser during added time and it was a priceless point for them because they denied the Blues their usual dominance over them.

On the other hand, Wolves have yet to hit the ground running after going winless in their first two league matches. They’ve had some success against Tottenham lately, but it might not matter at all come Saturday night.

More reinforcements for Tottenham?

Spurs have had a busy summer which has paid off. But with more money left to spend and with a few days to go, they are reportedly working on a few more signings to further strengthen their title credentials.

Reports in the Italian media claim that Tottenham are linked with Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta. The Ukrainian’s current deal with the Bergamo outfit is expiring after one year so he’s likely up for sale.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are also interested with Manchester United’s James Garner and Blackburn Rovers centre-back Ashley Phillips, and both could be available for just under £15-M each.

As it is right now, Tottenham boast a formidable roster led by the front trio of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski. However, they’ll face question marks at the back since Cristian Romero is likely to miss a month’s worth of action due to a muscular injury.

Wolves get much-needed midfield boost

Wolves are hoping that the third time’s a charm after they’ve endured a couple of lacklustre Premier League 2022 results to start their campaign.

It looked like they were on their way when Daniel Podence scored their first goal of the season after six minutes against Leeds United at Elland Road. However, they weren’t able to secure the win when the Whites scored one goal each in the first and second half.

They were then held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Fulham, in a game that featured limited attacking opportunities as both sides only had 16 shots total.

Wolves are lacking creativity in the midfield so the forthcoming return of Joao Moutinho should lift their spirits.

The 35-year-old Portuguese has missed the club’s first two games due to a “strange” foot injury, although it remains to be seen whether he’ll be at 100-per cent in the next few days.

There’s more good news for Wolves as they recently signed Matheus Nunes from Sporting CP for a club record fee of £38-M. The 23-year-old playmaker can make his debut for the Midlands outfit this weekend.

Wolves surprisingly have gotten the better of Spurs as they’ve won four of their last seven league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (L2, D1). Those four losses for Tottenham is as many as they’ve had in their first 38 home league matchups with them (W27, D7).

However, Wolves are winless in their last nine top-flight games dating back to April (D3, L6), which is their longest streak since a run of 17 between February 2012 and August 2018.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have lost just one of their last 13 league matches (W9, D3) – scoring 33 goals and conceded only eight after having lost five of their previous eight before this run.

Harry Kane could achieve another goalscoring milestone. If he finds the back of the net against Wolves, he would have the record of most goals scored for a single Premier League side with 185 to surpass Sergio Aguero (184 with Manchester City).

Betting Tip

Tottenham are backed by the SBOTOP Premier League 2022 odds to emerge victorious. Spurs are pegged at 1.39, whereas Wolves are the underdogs since they’re priced at 7.20 and chances for a draw are at 4.80 in the 1X2 market.

Wolves will certainly like their chances since they’ll have a more complete lineup, but their overall quality pales in comparison to Tottenham – who may very well be the dark horse candidate for the domestic title this season.

Under 3.00 @ 1.70 is another bet worth considering since neither have scored more than twice in their most recent encounters, but Tottenham should score at least once in this contest to grab all three points.
