Premier League: Streaking Spurs Out to Smash Seagulls

Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Tottenham Hotspur are now in the driver’s seat for fourth place in the Premier League. Thanks in large part to their sensational front three, Spurs have reeled off a four-game winning streak to overtake slumping rivals Arsenal for the coveted final Champions League spot.

Spurs will now look to further tighten their grip on fourth when they host Brighton, whom they have defeated twice already in 2022.

The two sides just met in the league last month, with Spurs coming out on top 2-0. And the Premier League 2022 betting odds will once again have the in-form North Londoners heavily favoured to complete the double over the Seagulls.

Talking Points

Tottenham in control of top-four race

Tottenham are finally firing on all cylinders under Antonio Conte. They are in the midst of a four-game winning run – their longest of the season – to take control of the race for fourth in the Premier League.

Spurs are coming off two massive wins over Newcastle (5-1) and Aston Villa (0-4). The front three of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski were excellent in those games and have been instrumental in Spurs’ recent success.

Son has been in scorching hot form, scoring six goals in his last three games, including a hat-trick against Villa. Kane has surprisingly not scored in his last three games, but he has supplied five assists during that time, while Kulusevski has a goal and two assists to his name.

With the trio of Son, Kane, and Kulusevski leading the way, Conte has fielded a mostly settled starting XI during their recent winning run. However, he will be forced to make a change at wing-back with Matt Doherty lost for the season due to a knee injury. Luckily, Sergio Reguilon is back fit after a knee injury and is likely to reclaim his starting place on the left wing.

After back-to-back defeats to Southampton and Wolves, Spurs have won each of their last three home games. They’ve scored 13 total goals in those three games and have hit five goals twice.

Brighton finally break long winless skid

After a disastrous run of Premier League 2022 results that saw them lose six straight and go winless in seven, Brighton finally got back to winning ways with a shock 2-1 win away to top four-chasing Arsenal.

Will Brighton seal an away victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League?
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard celebrates after scoring against Arsenal in the Premier League

The Seagulls got goals from Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu, who also set up Trossard’s goal. The 24-year-old Mwepu was making his first start since returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out since January, and his performance was a reminder of how much Brighton have missed him in the middle of the park alongside Yves Bissouma.

The entire Brighton team’s performance was a surprise given that they are comfortably in midtable and don’t have much left to play for. But Graham Potter’s side is still quite game to spoil the plans of Champions League-chasing teams.

There’s also good news for Brighton as centre-back Adam Webster is finally back fit and could make his way back into the starting XI.

Brighton have had a much better away record this season than at home. They’ve won five of their eight matches this season at Falmer Stadium with just three defeats, the fourth-fewest in the league behind the top three.

History

Tottenham have faced Brighton twice in 2022 – in the FA Cup in February and the Premier League in March – and won both times. They won 3-1 in the cup thanks to a Harry Kane brace. They then won 2-0 at Brighton, with Kane scoring again and Cristian Romero also on target.

Spurs have now won six of nine Premier League matches against Brighton, with the Seagulls winning two. Their last win at Spurs’ home ground came back in 1981.

Betting Tip

SBOTOP odds have Tottenham installed as heavy 1.54 favourites at home against Brighton, who are priced at 5.80. A draw is 4.10.

Tottenham easily took care of Brighton in both of their recent matchups, and it’s hard to see why this time will be any different. Spurs are in spectacular form at the moment and still have much to play for in terms of sealing a top-four spot.

And while the Seagulls are a dangerous team – as they showed against Arsenal –Tottenham should have the talent to take care of business at home.
