Manchester City vs Burnley
Burnley’s next trip in their itinerary is over at the Etihad Stadium to visit Manchester City, as they try to secure their first win since late February here in the Premier League.
The 10th-seeded squad in the Premier League table are fresh off of a draw against Tottenham in a match that would’ve earned them additional three points only if they didn’t concede a penalty from Dele Alli.
Sean Dyche’s men are level with 11th placers Crystal Palace with 39 points apiece and they will try to muster a valiant effort facing the defending champions.
Speaking of the champions, Manchester City are off to a hot start since the restart.
In their first game back at the Etihad Stadium, they were able to register a resounding win against Arsenal – who were on the wrong end of our Premier League 2020 results due to a horrendous performance by “clown” David Luiz.
Despite the victory, Manchester City’s title reign is effectively over since Liverpool are way ahead in terms of points. But knowing Pep Guardiola, he will try his best to continuously motivate his players as a way to salvage some pride.
This figures to be an easy win for the Sky Blues on paper, but can the downtrodden Burnley team spring an upset on Tuesday? For now, allow SBOBET to help guide you with our latest match preview.
Talking Points
Manchester City bursting out of the gates
Pep Guardiola’s men are off to a scintillating start since the league’s restart just this month.
They were practically gifted a 3-0 win against a long-time nemesis in Arsenal, who really suffered from the efforts of centre-back David Luiz.
The Brazilian defender looked lost and confused during his time in the pitch, and he made his unceremonious exit eventually when he was given a red card after a ridiculous challenge on Riyad Mahrez in the penalty area.
Heading into Tuesday, Pep Guardiola have a plethora of options for his starting XI compared to Burnley.
Aymeric Laporte, who wasn’t even featured on their bench against Arsenal, looks to be fit and ready to go after being hobbled by injuries in key stretches this term.
Guardiola may also opt to use Fernandinho and John Stones at the back should he rest Laporte.
He can also put the young Phil Foden or Leroy Sane at the midfield to provide attacking support for Riyad Mahrez, Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Sergio Aguero.
Eric Garcia could have been a shoo-in here because of his fine performance against the Gunners. However, he is expected to be rested because he was stretchered off after colliding with Gunners goalkeeper Ederson.
Burnley dealt with a bad hand
In stark contrast to Manchester City, Burnley are in a world of pain as they are left with a lot of question marks.
For one, the Clarets have a ton of injuries to deal with as their top scorers in Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are not yet fully recovered.
Wood is having an Achilles concern while Barnes is still recuperating from an hernia issue last January and Gudmundsson has a calf injury.
Other than those maladies, Sean Dyche is in a quandary since they have a number of players who have yet to re-sign new contracts with the team.
Dyche has until June 23rd to re-sign Jeff Hendrick, Phil Bardsley, Aaron Lennon, Joe Hart, and Adam Legzdins in order to keep them at least until the end of the season.
The 48-year-old manager already expressed his dismay towards the management because of the situation he’s in. Dyche mentioned that he has already warned the board about this but it went into deaf ears.
What a shame it is for the higher ups to treat one of their successful managers like this.
History
Manchester City and Burnley have only played in 15 matches total so far.
As expected, the Sky Blues dominate this head-to-head matchup with 11 wins while the Clarets won only once along with three draws.
Goals are at a premium whenever these two face off, as they’ve averaged 4.13 goals between them per contest.
Sergio Aguero has been a long-time nemesis for Burnley – having notched nine goals in his nine career appearances against the Clarets.
Betting Tip
Manchester City vs Burnley | Manchester City Asian Handicap -2.50 @ 2.06 | |
June 23, 03:00 (GMT+8) |
The latest Premier League 2020 odds obviously point to a big win in favour of Manchester City, especially in the 1×2 market.
The Sky Blues are the overwhelming Goliaths priced at 1.12 while the Clarets are significantly lower at 22.00 and a draw is at 7.40.
City’s title chances may be up in the smoke, but they definitely remain a class above Burnley. At the same time, they are still eyeing for an FA Cup win before the end of the summer.
With Burnley experiencing a rough patch lately, it will be hard to see them mount a challenge against this formidable Manchester City side.
