Burnley vs Arsenal
It’s about the last place Arsenal’s superstars want to spend a Sunday afternoon, but for the rest of us, the Gunners clash in Burnley is set up to be a cracker!
Arsene Wenger’s team has a spring in its step again after winning the North London Derby. But heading 200 miles further north, they need to kick on to avoid slipping too far from the top four. And this is no easy game.
The Clarets have already made a mockery of football betting pundits and defied betting odds by beating Chelsea and Everton. Their draws with Spurs and Liverpool, make the big names hold no fear for Sean Dyche’s team. And they go into this clash level on points with their illustrious visitors.
It’s a big, big test for the Gunners, on the back of a great win against Spurs. This fixture presents a whole new set of problems. Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil must try to break down a talented and resolute back four, marshaled by the brave Ben Mee. Reserve keeper Nick Pope has been in fine form as Burnley won the last three games without conceding. Record signing Chris Wood could be available again up front after his return from international duty. If fit, he’ll give Arsenal’s defence plenty to think about.
And it won’t have gone unnoticed in East Lancashire that while Arsenal have a 100 per cent home record, the Gunners have won one, drawn one and lost four on their travels. Turf Moor can be a cold and hostile place for the faint-hearted, so Arsene Wenger must prepare his players for a real battle.
Win it, and they stay in the hunt for fourth place…lose it and they fall three points behind Burnley. Now, that would be another story!
