Lazio 4-1 AC Milan
A heavy downpour delayed the Lazio-Milan game for an hour, but it didn’t stop Ciro Immobile from flooding the Stadio Olimpico with goals throughout the night.
The Italy international produced a masterful hat-trick performance to lift Lazio over the big-spending and new-look Milan, who have the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Lucas Biglia and Ricardo Rodriguez in their ranks.
Pre-match betting odds were tight between the two, but betting tips had the Rossoneri coming out on top after a brilliant start to the season that saw them go undefeated and win their last four football games – two in the Europa League.
However, Lazio didn’t buy the hype surrounding the Milan outfit as they thumped them with four goals in less than an hour.
Immobile led the charge for the home side in a blistering 10 minutes of action that saw him bag a hat-trick, starting with a 38th-minute penalty after Franck Kessie’s foul on Luis Alberto.
The 27-year-old striker then hit his second off a Senad Lulic cross four minutes later before Marco Parolo set him up after the restart to complete his treble.
Immobile, though, didn’t stop there as he piled more misery on the visitors, assisting Alberto for Lazio’s fourth.
The Milan side had a couple of opportunities early in the game; however, they failed to convert on their chances and had to settle for Riccardo Montolivo’s consolation goal near the hour mark.
This loss is Milan’s first of the season and they now drop to seventh in the standings with six points. The defeat also raises more questions if they can compete with the best even after spending €200 million in the summer.
Meanwhile, the other Milan squad, Inter, maintained their perfect record with a 2-0 smacking of new boys SPAL, thanks to Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic who scored in both intervals.
Reigning champions Juventus and challengers Napoli also kept their records unblemished after a 3-0 demolition of their Week 3 opponents. The Old Lady trounced Chievo in the opening game of the week, while the Partenopei closed it out by the same scoreline against Bologna.
At the bottom end of the table, five teams are still without a win. Newly-promoted Benevento, nonetheless, are the only club without a point following their 0-1 loss to Torino.
