La Liga: Mission Accomplished for Barcelona and Betis

Barcelona vs Real Betis

Barcelona and Real Betis have already achieved their main objectives this season, so one can’t help but think they might not go all-out when they convene at Camp Nou on Sunday night.

The Blaugrana won their second consecutive La Liga championship after winning the latest edition of El Clásico against Los Blancos (2-0) last weekend. However, Hansi Flick’s side will miss out on the 100-point league target, following last night’s shocking 1-0 defeat to Alaves, so they’ll be keen to return to winning ways.

Meanwhile, Los Verdiblancos mathematically secured their Champions League return after a 20-year absence with a 2-1 home win against 10-man Elche. Manuel Pellegrini’s men are guaranteed to finish fifth in the Spanish top-flight standings with 57 points and are undefeated in their last seven league matches.

Talking Points

Big decisions looming for Barcelona

Barcelona could be in for a drastic lineup change next season, as they’re likely to let go of some of their best attackers this summer.

The Blaugrana are planning to replace Robert Lewandowski, their third-leading scorer this season with 13 goals, because he’s approaching his 40s. Barcelona are reportedly eyeing Joao Pedro, Vedat Muriqi, Julian Alvarez, and Dusan Vlahovic. Lewandowski will certainly have his share of suitors from Portugal and Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona must also figure out what to do with Marcus Rashford, their marquee loan acquisition this term. The Englishman has enjoyed himself in Catalunya this season, having contributed 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. But due to their financial constraints, the Blaugrana don’t want to pay the €30 million buy clause in his contract, so they’re pondering another season-long loan agreement with Manchester United.

Hansi Flick’s side boasts the league’s best offence, having generated 91 goals (at least 19 more than Real Madrid), but again, they’re unable to reach the 100-point mark. However, they could still claim a small slice of history by beating Real Betis to complete their first full campaign since 1959-60 in which they’ll be unbeaten at home.

Real Betis star attracting suitors

Real Betis wouldn’t be back in the Champions League next term if it weren’t for their attack, which has picked up in the past few weeks. During their seven-game unbeaten run, Manuel Pellegrini’s side found the back of the net 12 times. Overall, they have 56 goals this term, good for the Spanish top-flight’s fifth-best offence.

Abde Ezzalzouli is one of the driving forces behind Real Betis’ resurgence. The Moroccan winger has enjoyed the most productive season of his career in Andalusia, contributing 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. Considering the club only signed him in 2023 for €7.3 million, Ezzalzouli has become a huge bargain.

Because of his strong performance, Ezzalzouli has attracted Premier League interest. Meanwhile, Barcelona have thought about buying him back.

History

Barcelona and Real Betis engaged in a barnburner at Estadio de La Cartuja last December during their reverse fixture. Ferran Torres (hat-trick), Roony Bardghji, and Lamine Yamal were on the scoresheet for the Blaugrana, while Antony, Diego Llorente, and Cucho Hernandez scored for Los Verdiblancos.

As noted, Real Betis are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2005-06, as they rubber-stamped their fifth-place finish. Head coach Manuel Pellegrini will seek some personal retribution against Barcelona, whom he has lost 28 games against (W5, D6).

Real Betis’ last win against Barcelona was a 1-0 result in December 2021, and they have been winless in their last 10 (D2). Los Verdiblancos have won only one of their last seven away games (D3, L3).

Betting Tip

The La Liga 2026 odds predict Barcelona to cruise past Real Betis on Sunday night. The Blaugrana are 1.34 favourites to win, whereas Los Verdiblancos are huge 6.00 underdogs, and a draw is at 5.10 in the 1X2 market.

Just like in the reverse fixture, we expect these two clubs to put on a show by giving the football fans at Camp Nou their fair share of La Liga 2026 highlights this weekend. Besides rooting for Barcelona to win, bettors may also want to add Over 3.50 at 1.88, Over 3.75 at 2.11, and Total Goal 4-6 at 2.14 to the parlay.

However, if you fancy Real Betis getting at least one point from this contest, it’s worth noting that the Correct Scores that see them getting a draw or a win are on offer for at least 11.50 your bet.
