La Liga: Sociedad Seek Another Real Scalp at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad

Don’t look now, but Real Madrid appear to be hitting their stride. The Spanish giants have reeled off three dominant wins in their last four matches, including huge beatdowns at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real will look to keep their fine form going in La Liga as they host Real Sociedad in their return from the international break.

Sociedad have had an impressive season thus far and are currently fifth in the table. However, they could’ve been even higher had they not had some costly stumbles in past matches.

But they’ve had Real’s number in their most recent meetings and will look to cause another major upset to the La Liga 2019 odds this weekend.

Talking Points

Real Madrid on a roll

Real Madrid are seemingly getting back to their best. Los Blancos have gone unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions (four wins and a draw), with three of those wins coming by four or more goals.

They thumped Leganes (5-0) and Galatasaray (6-0) at home, and crushed Eibar (0-4) away prior to the international break.

The Real backline has been big reason for their recent success. They’ve kept clean sheets in five consecutive matches. And they haven’t had too many problems up front, either.

Karim Benzema has been in fine form, scoring five goals and adding three assists in his last four appearances. Sergio Ramos has also gotten into the act with three goals — all from penalties.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is finally looking like the player Real paid 100 million euros to acquire this summer. The Belgian star has scored just once in his first seven La Liga appearances, but after bagging a brace for his country against Russia during the break, he will be eager to add to that tally.

It remains to be seen who will start alongside Benzema and Hazard in Real’s front three, but Rodrygo will no doubt be in contention. The Brazilian teen made headlines with his Champions League hat-trick against Galatasaray and also made his international debut for his country during the break.

La Real’s impressive away form

A third of the season is already through, and Real Sociedad find themselves way up in fifth spot in La Liga. But they probably should be a bit higher had they not dropped some valuable points at home in recent weeks.

First, they suffered a 2-1 defeat to mid-table Levante. Then, they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Leganes.

Curiously, they’ve been much better away from the Anoeta Stadium this season. In fact, they have the best away record in the league with four wins, a draw, and two defeats in seven matches.

They’ve done a lot of their damage late in matches, too. Of their 10 away goals, six have been scored with 15 minutes or fewer left in the match. That includes their winners against Celta Vigo and Granada.

Sociedad have had a balanced attack led by Willian Jose, who has four goals. Portu and Mike Oyarzabal have four apiece, while 20-year-olds Alexander Isak and Martin Odegaard have two each.

The latest La Liga 2019 updates say Odegaard is recovering well from a heel injury which has kept him out of the last two games and could potentially be fit enough to face his parent club.

History

Real Madrid have historically had the upper hand over Real Sociedad. In 47 overall meetings since 1993, Madrid have won 27 matches while Sociedad have won 11. Real have also won seven of the last nine games.

However, La Real pulled off a major shock when they did the double over Los Blancos last season. Madrid didn’t help their own cause as they had a player sent off in both matches.

Prior to Sociedad’s 2-0 win in Madrid last season, their last victory at the Bernabeu came back in 2004.

Betting Tip

??
Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad Real Madrid Asian Handicap -1.50 @ 2.08
November 24, 04:00 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Real Madrid priced as 1.40 favourites at home. Sociedad are 6.60 underdogs while a draw is 4.90.

As good as Sociedad have been, particularly away from home, I still like Madrid to win this game quite comfortably. They’ve been scoring goals for fun of late as their confidence has steadily improved with each passing game.

I fully expect them to keep that run going at home as they get some revenge over La Real for last year’s defeats.
