While the football world tales a pause due to the global outbreak of COVID19 we have a good chance to review the action in the big leagues so far and La Liga has been as good as any.
Champions Barcelona are battling for the title with arch rivals Real Madrid, while there are tussles going on through the European places, down the league towards the drop zone. We’ve seen plenty of great goals, and today we’re going to take a look at goal scorers making the headlines.
Hopefully they’ll be back in action before long and we’ll keep you posted with all the La Liga 2020 updates as they start to roll in. But in the meantime we take a look at the most ruthless strikers in the league, the top five with the best minutes to goal ratio.
5. Karim Benzema, Real Madrid 159 minutes per goal
He’s played more minutes on the pitch than any of the other top five in this list, and that’s because Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane has relied so heavily on Karim Benzema in the club’s push to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table.
The Frenchman has scored 14 of Real Madrid’s 49 league goals, as well as providing six assists in the 2220 minutes he’s played; and he has rained 82 shots down on opposing goalkeeper’s nets with 42 on target at an accuracy of 51 per cent. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 Benzema has stepped up to become Real’s main man up front, but he stands alone and that could cost Los Blancos the title again.
Benzema has gone a little quiet; his goal in the defeat to Real Betis was his first in six games, a sequence which included three defeats and a draw for Real Madrid.
4. Roger Marti, Levante – 152 minutes per goal
Roger’s goals have fired Levante to relative safety, in 13th position with 33 points from 27 games, which leaves Los Granotas eight points above the drop zone.
He has scored 11 goals from 23 shots on target, at an accuracy of 62 per cent, and he scored a crucial goal in Levante’s recent 2-0 win over Leganes which has eased his side away from danger. The 29 year old is a Levante favourite having worked his way through from the B side and fans hope they have another few years to come from their star striker.
3. Luis Suarez, Barcelona – 116 minutes per goal
He has been injured since January but Suarez is still in third place on the La Liga 2020 top scorers list with 11 goals. With the enforced break due to the spread of coronavirus, as and when play resumes, he is likely to be fit to join his team-mates in a final push. The latest La Liga 2020 betting odds back the Barca, and Suarez could be the man to see them over the line.
With seven assists he’s a great supply to Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi, and when he gets a chance he’s rarely wide of the mark, banging in 29 shots from 43 attempts at a shot accuracy of 67 per cent. I suspect Barca would be more than two points clear had the former Liverpool man not been sidelined for the last two months.
2. Angel Rodriguez, Getafe – 110 minutes per goal
Getafe boss Jose Bordelas has done a great job in guiding his team up to fifth in the table, and he’s relied on striker Angel Rodriguez for his goals. He’s a clinical hit man, having scored ten goals in the 1095 minutes he’s played, as well as contributing a couple of assists.
Angel tests the opposition goal keepers with a shot accuracy of 55 per cent, with 18 on target from 33 attempts, and his tally includes a goal in Getafe’s recent 2-1 defeat away to Barcelona.
1. Lionel Messi, Barcelona – 99 minutes per goal
The Blaugrana’s little genius is top of this list as well as being the La Liga 2020 leading scorer, having bagged another 19 goals. He’s also made 12 assists in the 1890 minutes he’s been on the pitch.
With 55 shots on target from 80 efforts he has accuracy of 69 per cent, the highest in this group of brilliant strikers, and just ahead of his team-mate Suarez who is on 67 per cent.
He’s La Liga’s top scorer of all time and this season is no different. And he’s a favourite of ours here at SBOBET, pretty much guaranteeing a headline every time he plays!
