K-League: Seongnam Seek to Extend Daegu’s Win Drought

Daegu FC vs Seongnam FC

Daegu FC have had a simply disastrous second half to their K-League season. After losing only once in their first 10 games, they’ve since won just two of their next 10 and none in their last six games on the bounce.

As a result, their place in the top half of the table before the final round is now in some doubt. Their next attempt to end their extended win drought will be at home against Seongnam FC.

The Magpies have put together two impressive results in a row against two of the top three sides in the league and while the K-League 2020 odds aren’t in their favour, they will be eager to deal another blow to Daegu’s season.

Talking Points

Daegu’s disappointing form continues

Daegu’s recent run of K-League 2020 results continues to be highly disappointing. They have now failed to win any of their last six games after another draw over the weekend.

Granted, that draw did come away to leaders Ulsan, which counts as a positive result. The performance overall was also promising. Despite Ulsan controlling much of possession, Daegu were the much more threatening of the two sides as they had 18 shots, nine of which were on target.

After failing to score for three games in a row, Daegu have now found the net seven times in their last three matches.

Unsurprisingly, Cesinha has been right in the middle of their offence’s resurgence. The Brazilian has scored five of those seven goals, which now puts his season total to 13 goals — second in the league behind Ulsan’s Junior Negrao (22 goals).

It was also promising that Daegu managed to slow Negrao and Ulsan’s high-powered offence, which has scored a league-leading 43 goals this season.

Perhaps they’ve finally learned some lessons from their previous two games, where they conceded six goals at home in their match against Gwangju and three away to Pohang Steelers.

Daegu were without young defender Jo Jin-woo against Ulsan due to suspension, but the 20-year-old will be available once again.

Seongnam on the upswing

Seongnam are suddenly on an upswing of form after back-to-back strong results. They followed up their shock 2-0 win against reigning champions Jeonbuk with a goalless draw away to third-placed Sangju Sangmu.

Those results have seen Seongnam in the hunt to make the top half with just two matches left before the final round.

With Gwangju playing much better football of late, Seongnam need to continue to pick up points to keep the Griffins at bay.

Seongnam have had some difficulty scoring goals all season; they have just 17 through 20 matches, which is tied for the second-fewest in the league.

But they’ve actually seen some improvement on offence recently. Prior to their goalless draw against Sangju, they had scored in each of their last six games.

Moreover, they’ve surprisingly had more success finding the back of the net away from home this season. They’ve got 11 goals away as opposed to just six at the Tancheon Sports Complex.

Seongnam have been significantly better away than at home overall. They’ve actually got the third-best away mark in the league, with four wins, four draws, two losses, and just seven goals conceded.

History

Matchups between Daegu and Seongnam have been quite competitive. Daegu hold the slight edge with six league wins to Seongnam’s three, with four draws.

Daegu won their two matches in the K-League play-offs back in 2012. They also drew both meetings in the relegation round in 2013.

Daegu are unbeaten in their last six meetings against Seongnam and have won the last three in a row. However, they’ve won just one of their last six home matches against Seongnam.

Betting Tip

??
Daegu FC vs Seongnam FC Seongnam FC Asian Handicap +0.25 @ 2.04
September 16, 19:00 (GMT+8)

SBOTOP odds still believe in Daegu despite their mounting struggles. They have the home side priced at 2.20 to finally end their win drought, while Seongnam are at 3.25. A draw is 3.15.

However, the evidence has just mounted to a point where it’s hard to trust Daegu to get a positive result. The decline of their defence, in particular, has been concerning.

That’s why Seongnam on the Asian Handicap is the stronger bet. The Magpies at +0.25 is 2.04, which is great value as an away win or a draw wins the bet.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
