Chelsea vs Arsenal
The Premier League is littered with a history of relentless, closely contested football games between these two heavyweights.
Yet the betting odds firmly favour one team this weekend, and that is not just because the reigning champions have the edge in the form stakes.
It is also because the Gunners – once considered Chelsea’s bogey team – have a woeful record at Stamford Bridge.
If you bet online this weekend, it’s hard to see an Arsenal triumph, although they may manage a draw.
That despite Arsenal winning the most recent two competitive encounters – last month’s Community Shield and last season’s FA Cup Final which denied Antonio Conte a dream double.
What you will see, or at least hear, however, is a very modern rivalry in which Arsenal fans taunt Chelsea about their underwhelming history before owner Roman Abramovich and his billions rode into town to transform the chic part of West London.
The song goes something along the lines of: “Where were you before the money?”
What you will then hear is the retort from the hosts that their pedigree over the last decade is far more to write home about than the traditionally underachieving North London giants.
Not since October 2011 have Arsenal avoided defeat at Stamford Bridge.
And another defeat this weekend would already leave them six points behind Chelsea.
Whatever your allegiance, whatever your take on the history and rivalry between these two powerhouses, this is a clash of rivals in a cosmopolitan city, of pragmatists v purists, of an already stoked rivalry.
