Euro 2020: Red Devils Will be Too Hot for the Scots

Belgium vs Scotland

Euro 2020 football is back after the weekend; and Roberto Martinez’ Belgium can take a firm grip on Group I if they beat Steve Clarke’s Scotland as expected.

This is Clarke’s second game as Scotland manager and a serious test for this team, while it’s a great chance for SBOBET Euro 2020 fans to take a look at one of the tournament favourites in Belgium.

The Red Devils have been at the top end of the world rankings for a decade, and boast some of the best players on the planet, so if Scotland can somehow get a result, it will be one of the shocks of the tournament so far.

Talking Points

Belgium’s star-studded team

The Red Devils are officially the best team in the world, narrowly ahead of World Champions France, and the early Euro 2020 results have put Martinez’ team in charge of Group I on nine points. Brothers Eden and Thorgan Hazard are the best pair of siblings in world football, Thorgan beginning to reach the heights of his elder brother.

Eden Hazard put in a man-of-the match performance as Belgium got their campaign up and running with a 3-1 win over Russia and he’s the only player in this contest who has scored more than one goal in qualification so far, with three already to his name. The Belgium side is packed with some of the Premier League’s best players, including Manchester City’s midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne and the back three of Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld; while Napoli’s Dries Mertens and Borussia Dortmund’s Axel Witsel provide great creativity from the flanks.

This is a team capable of beating the best in the world, but they need to win a trophy to assume the greatness their ability promises.

Scotland’s World Class Wing Back

The visitors don’t have many players who compare to their illustrious hosts but they do have one man who could get in the Belgium team. Liverpool’s flying wing back has had a superb season and looks to be one of Jurgen Klopp’s most shrewd signings. While doing the hard defensive work Robertson has made 11 assists, putting him fifth in that Premier league table. He scored in Scotland’s last game, against Cyprus, and is the most likely player to create something for the Scots.

Bournemouth’s in demand winger Ryan Fraser could also be a threat. His direct running and sharp delivery has been productive for the Cherries and won admirers from plenty of other clubs. Bournemouth head coach Eddie Howe will do well to keep his tricky wide man on the south coast for another season, but he’s certainly an asset to Scotland.

The Scots won their League C Nations League group, pipping Israel to top spot and gaining promotion to the B League. And Oliver Burke’s 89th minute strike gave Clarke a winning start as Scotland boss as his team ran out 2-1 winners over Cyprus. So they are on a decent run of form, but this game should be beyond their reach.

History

The head-to-heads are in the Red Devils’ favour with eight wins to Scotland’s two and there has been a single draw. Belgium is unbeaten in five in this fixture and has won the last four, the latest being a 0-4 victory in 2018, when Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku were both on target.

Belgium in unbeaten in 20 games at home, winning 16, while Scotland hasn’t registered a draw in 14 games, winning six and losing eight. Clarke’s team is third in Group I, on six points and could draw level with Belgium if they can spring that major shock.

Betting Tip

??
Belgium vs Scotland First Half Over 1.25 @ 1.95
June 12 02:45 (GMT+8)

The Belgium vs Scotland betting odds say this should be a heavily one-sided affair with Belgium at 1.16 to triumph, the draw at 7.20 and Scotland way out there at 13.00 to win. At 43 places lower in the FIFA World Rankings Scotland is indeed an underdog, but there is a spring in the Scots’ step at the moment, with a successful Nations League campaign and a new manager bounce.

But Belgium is no Cyprus! Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne are two of a handful of European footballers who are head and shoulders above the rest, and only Scotland wing-back Andy Robertson, Champions League winner with Liverpool, can really live in the Red Devils’ company.

I think there will be plenty of goals in this game, and a fast start with the hosts potentially two up by the break.
