And if the Red Devils can live with the French giants, it will be an encouraging step as the new season rapidly approaches. It promises to be a lively encounter for supporters at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, where the organisers expect a good number of Manchester United and PSG fans to make the relatively short trip.

Carrick set to play a strong side
Manchester United have progressed nicely during their pre-season. After starting with a loss to moneybags Championship side Wrexham, they responded with an impressive 5-0 thumping of Rosenborg, and then Carrick’s young charges pulled off a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid’s squad players. The manager has relied heavily on academy players himself, fielding 10 youngsters against Los Rojiblancos.
After going behind in the first half to an Arnau Ortiz goal, 2025 recruit Bryan Mbeumo scored twice as the Red Devils launched a second-half comeback to make it back-to-back wins in pre-season. Now, with the World Cup drifting into a memory, the Portuguese pair of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, as well as Brazil’s Matheus Cunha, have all joined the squad, while Argentine finalist Lisandro Martinez remains the most prominent player yet to return.
As well as club captain Fernandes, we could see summer signing Youri Tielemans get some game time. Up front, there will be competition for places between Mbeumo, Cunha, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo.
With Harry Maguire in the defensive unit, we could see plenty of Carrick’s frontline players on show in Scandinavia, and the manager will be inching closer to his starting lineup for the new Premier League campaign.
PSG’s second major outing
The Parisiens have only just set off on their pre-season journey, and they will open their tour with a match against Real Mallorca on Wednesday before meeting the Red Devils on Saturday.
The French champions have been quiet in the transfer market so far, bringing in young goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni from AC Milan’s academy, the same club from which they sourced Azzurri stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma. And PSG have reached a final agreement with Monaco to sign French forward Maghnes Akliouche, with reports in France suggesting the 24-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes in a deal worth around €50 million.
But much of the recent Club Friendly 2026 news has been rather unhelpful for Enrique, mainly surrounding the future of forward Bradley Barcola, who continues to be linked with Liverpool. And news from England suggests the big-spending Reds are eying a double swoop which may include another winger, Ibrahim Mbaye.
Barcola is yet to return from the World Cup alongside fellow France stars Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue. But there could be some of PSG’s stellar talents on show, including captain and Brazil centre-back Marquinhos, Georgian playmaker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Moroccan talisman Achraf Hakimi, while the game probably comes too early for World Cup winner Fabian Ruiz.
History
This is a relatively new relationship between two of the game’s most glamorous clubs. During Manchester United’s golden age under Sir Alex Ferguson, the French club was yet to join the European elite. Since the great man’s retirement in 2013, United have crossed swords with PSG five times, four of them when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at the Manchester helm, and the Ligue 1 side is ahead by three wins to two.
PSG won the first two meetings by a 2-0 scoreline, and the Red Devils won a Champions League clash 3-1. When they met in the 2019 Champions League, PSG took a 2-1 win away from Old Trafford before United exacted their revenge with a 3-1 victory in Paris, as Marcus Rashford scored a stoppage-time VAR-awarded penalty to win the tie.
Betting Tip
This clash in Sweden will be a good test of Manchester United’s current state, but the French giants may be a little undercooked.
So, I’m predicting an even match and the first draw between these two teams, and that will probably suit Carrick just fine if his men put in a good performance.
