Champions League: Can Inter Cope with The Yellow Wall?

There are few, if any, more impressive sights than the 25,000 strong Yellow Wall at the Signal Iduna Park in Dormund, and when Inter Milan arrive on Tuesday night for a Champions League clash, the Wall will be in full voice and splendour.

In probably the toughest group in the competition, Barcelona seem to be in control of Group F, which makes this a vital clash in the race for the second spot. Lucien Favre’s Borussia Dortmund sit in third on four points and behind I Nerazzurri on goal difference alone, so the bigger bonus to win is on the hosts. But Inter has become a tough side to beat under Antonio Conte, and with a serious attacking threat spearheaded by Romelu Lukaku the Italians will also fancy their chances.

The experienced Champions League campaigner, Marco Reus, is likely to start in an advanced position on Tuesday and he’ll get plenty of service from his two young wingers.

Lukaku in fine form

Since his summer switch from Manchester United, striker Romelu Lukaku has found a new lease of life under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. He scored a dramatic late penalty in a 1-2 away win over Bologna at the weekend, and that was his ninth goal in the league. That’s some return after 11 games in Serie A, and only Lazio’s prolific striker Ciro Immobile has more with 12.

Inter’s perfect start to the Serie A season was halted by Juventus in their seventh match but Lukaku’s goals have fired them into second place in the league, just a point behind Juventus and six ahead of third placed Atalanta, before the Sunday kick-offs.

History

Both clubs have strong pedigree in Europe. Inter have won Europe’s premier competition three times, twice in the 1960s and then again in 2010. Borussia won the Champions League in 1997 and reached the final again in 2013.

This is only the second meeting between these two teams so revenge will be on BVB’s minds, but Inter are unbeaten in five and have won the last three on their travels.
