Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
It’s not too late for the Eagles to prove that their 5-1 win over Bayern Munich wasn’t a fluke by handling their business against Mönchengladbach in their Matchday 16 clash at Deutsche Bank Park.
Despite being in the lower half of the Bundesliga table, the Foals are still a team to be wary about, especially now that Gerardo Seoane has been able to unlock their June signing, 25-year-old Robin Hack.
The Foals have won two of their last five Bundesliga matches and are just two points behind ninth-placed Wolfsburg. If they would continue to strive under Seoane’s experiments on their roster, it would only be a matter of time for Gladbach to reach the upper half of the league table.
Talking Points
The Eagles soar low
Dino Toppmöller and his team failed to capitalise on one of the most stunning Bundesliga 2023 results when they trampled on the mighty Bayern Munich with a 5-1 victory at Deutsche Bank Park. That dominant victory was expected to spark a run for Frankfurt in hopes of climbing a few places up the Bundesliga table.
Unfortunately for Frankfurt fans, their beloved club went on a downward spiral and has yet to win a match after defeating Bayern. To be fair, their next Bundesliga match was against the league leaders, Leverkusen, who are heads and shoulders above every other team in the German top flight. It was a proper demolition job from Xabi Alonso’s squad, halting Frankfurt’s momentum with a 3-0 clean sheet defeat.
Toppmöller’s boys were already down in the dumps when they marched to Boniface’s Leverkusen due to their humbling 2-0 clean sheet defeat in the Europa Conference League against Aberdeen, a club that’s in the 10th place of the Scottish Premiership standings.
Frankfurt now have a great opportunity to get their legs back under them and to lift the morale in their dressing room when they face a Gladbach squad, who are still clawing their way to the upper half of the Bundesliga table.
Robin Hack shines for the Foals
The spotlight was on the 25-year-old forward, Robin Hack, as he made his Bundesliga starting XI debut and his debut appearance as a striker for the Foals during their 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen at Borussia-Park.
“I told the coach in the run-up to the game that I’ll give my all, no matter where I play,” the midfielder said in a post-game interview.
Borussia’s #25 wasted no time in making his mark with the new role bestowed on him by Gerardo Seoane. He dished out an assist right after halftime to equalise the match 1-1. Just a few minutes later, Hack once again served the ball on a platter for Reitz to take a 2-1 lead. Hack was the glue guy and the field general for Gladbach’s offence, and it won’t be a surprise if Seoane goes back to this lineup against Frankfurt.
“Robin worked extremely hard and helped the team with his individual quality. We know that he’s strong in other positions, but he did really well for us up front,” Seoane exclaimed.
History
These are well-acquainted clubs with 37 head-to-heads prior to their matchup this week. Historically, Borussia have the upper hand by winning 16 matches, while Frankfurt have only won 12.
It seems like these teams clash with one another head-on when they share the field, as they’ve scored a total of 110 goals against each other, with Frankfurt scoring 50 goals while the Foals were able to tally 60 goals. So, understandably, punters should consider their goals over 3.00 at 1.98.
In recent form in the Bundesliga, Eintracht have been struggling for the past few weeks, tallying just one win in their last five matches. And it’s more of the same in the Europa Conference League, where they recently lost to Aberdeen 2-0, and in the DFB-Pokal, where they managed to reach the round of 16 only to be defeated by PAOK in front of their home fans.
Borussia have won two of their last five Bundesliga competitions but were unsuccessful in the last two matchdays, forcing them to slip down to the 11th spot in the league standings. But unlike Frankfurt, Gerardo Seoane’s team has seen some success in the DFB-Pokal by defeating Wolfsburg in the round of 16 and are off to Ludwigsparkstadion to face Saarbrücken in the quarterfinals.
Betting Tip
It’s safe to say that SBOTOP hit the nail on the head with their Bundesliga 2023 odds for this match. Despite their humbling defeat against league leaders Leverkusen, Frankfurt are still the favourites to come out of this clash as the victors at 1.91, while Gladbach are the underdogs at 3.40 and 3.53 to draw.
The main line for Frankfurt at 1.91 is probably the best line for punters to keep an eye on, in my humble opinion. Despite winning more of their past head-to-heads, Borussia are far from their past selves. Gerardo Seoane’s team is currently struggling in the German top flight, garnering just 17 points after 15 games.
Another line worth considering is Frankfurt’s Asian Handicap of -0.50 at 1.91. This line goes hand in hand with their 1X2 offers, where the odds suggest that Dino Toppmöller’s club will successfully defend their home field against Mönchengladbach.
