Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig
We have the very best of the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena on Sunday, when FC Bayern meets RB Leipzig in a top of the table clash.
Hansi Flick’s Bayern lead the way at the moment by a single point from Leipzig, but they are not the only two teams in the race. This season is a real treat for SBOBET Bundesliga fans with four clubs separated by three points at the top, Borussia Dortmund and Monchengladbach are tied on 39 points in third and fourth place.
Julien Nagelsmann’s Leipzig are relative new boys in Germany’s elite group but they have shown, this season, they are ready to take the step up, and they will be all out to dethrone the reigning champions, starting on Sunday evening.
Talking Points
FC Bayern on for a double…maybe a treble
That, of course, is easier said than done. The Bavarian giants have won a record seven successive Bundesligas and are clicking through the gears again this season.
Die Roten are on target to win the German domestic double for the second year running, after retaking the lead at the top of the table last week, and they are in the quarter –finals of the DFB Pokal Cup, while Leipzig crashed out of the cup, losing to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
Flick’s team is also in a group of European giants likely to challenge for the Champions League this season, and have a Round of 16 tie against Chelsea to look forward to.
Nkunku is a class act
RB Leipzig isn’t the most popular club in Germany, founded just 11 years ago and catapulted up through the leagues with Red Bull’s aim of reaching the Bundesliga in eight years. Well, they did it, and in 2016 Leipzig arrived in the top flight, having destroyed all before them in the four leagues below.
Now they can compete with the best and Nagelsmann is putting together a talented squad, which may find some German fans warming to his side a little more. He has a stable of young French stars and the jewel was the recruitment of France U21 midfielder Christopher Nkunku from Paris Saint Germain in the summer. He has already made eight assists for Leipzig and scored a late equaliser in Leipzig’s 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last week.
Elsewhere in the team, wing back Lukas Klostermann has made a real impression. The 23 year old has been part of Joachim Low’s revolution in the national team and is equally comfortable in defence as raiding in attack.
Sharp shooters come face to face
But, of course, the weekend’s big Bundesliga 2020 news is the coming together of the two hottest strikers in the league. Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski has 22 goals while Leipzig’s Timo Werner has 20. Lewandowski and Werner are streets ahead of the rest of the field in the Bundesliga, BVB’s Jadon Sancho is in third place with 12 goals.
Lewandowski has been prolific for years, and his two goals which helped Bayern to beat Hoffenheim in the German Cup were his 34th and 35th of the season. He’s benefited from his partnership with Thomas Muller who has provided 11 assists.
Werner, still only 23, is getting better and better, and has already reached double figures for his national side, while maintaining a better than one goal in two ratio for his club. But while he is Leipzig’s major threat, Bayern do have other dangerous attackers.
Serge Gnabry has seven goals for Die Roten while Philippe Coutinho has six, so the Leipzig defence will have their hands full.
History
Since Leipzig’s arrival in the Bundesliga, they have not had a lot of luck against the Bavarians. Bayern have won six, drawn two and lost one of the nine fixtures since 2016, but Die Roten have only won one of the last five meetings in all competitions.
Recent form favours the hosts. Bayern have won five from their last six game, and the last five at home. While Leipzig’s defeats to Frankfurt in the cup and league sandwiched the draw with Monchengladbach, meaning they are without a win in three.
Betting Tip
Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig | First Half over 1.50 goals @ 1.94 | |
February 10, 01:00 GMT+8 |
At 1.41 for the Bayern win, the pre-match FC Bayern vs RB Leipzig betting odds are firmly backing the hosts. The draw is available at odds of 5.40, while Leipzig are at 5.80 to spring a surprise.
But Bayern have been relentless over the past two months and I suspect they’ll have too much for Leipzig.
For an alternative bet, 4-6 goals is available at 2.01, and with Lewandowski and Werner in superb form I can see plenty of goals.
