Bundesliga: Bold Predictions for the End of 2020 Season

The Bundesliga is back underway and looks set to conclude the 2019-20 season. There are still eight matches remaining in the campaign, and a few more unexpected twists could be in store for SBOBET Bundesliga fans before the season comes to an end.

But with the finish line in sight, one can’t help but look ahead to the end of the season. So here are some bold predictions as to how the 2020 Bundesliga season will eventually unfold.

Champions – Bayern Munich

Bayern weren’t quite as impressive as Dortmund in their first game back as they only beat newly promoted Union Berlin 2-0. But all that matters is that they got all three points and maintained their four-point lead over their rivals.

Hansi Flick’s side still has some tricky tests left away to both Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, as well as at home to Gladbach.

But the title is Bayern’s to lose. With all the quality in their squad, coupled with that four-point cushion, it would be hard to go against the Bundesliga 2020 betting odds, which have Bayern established as the clear favourites to claim an eighth straight championship.

Champions League qualifiers – Dortmund, Gladbach, Leverkusen

Dortmund, Gladbach, and Leverkusen all recorded impressive victories in their first matches back and look like the main contenders to finish behind Bayern.

Dortmund and Gladbach have been consistently strong for most of the season and it’s hard to see them falling off in the final eight games.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are currently outside the Champions League places in fifth. But their 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen was an eye-opener.

Kai Havertz, who was playing his best football of the season before the break in play, was incredible while playing as a false nine as he bagged himself a brace.

The momentum is clearly on Leverkusen’s side, and with Havertz in top form, expect them to break into that top four.

Europa League qualifiers – RB Leipzig, Freiburg

Leverkusen’s rise would mean Leipzig’s fall down to fifth, and that is looking more and more likely. After a blistering start to the campaign, the Red Bulls’ Bundesliga 2020 results have dipped significantly.

Since returning from the winter break, Julian Nagelsmann’s side has won just three times in nine league matches, with five draws and one defeat. They dropped two more valuable points last weekend after drawing 1-1 with Freiburg despite dominating at home.

Star forward Timo Werner’s form has fallen off a cliff, and one has to wonder whether the constant rumours about a possible big-money move have affected his play.

Ultimately, I don’t see Leipzig turning things around in time to hold on to that Champions League place.

Meanwhile, I see Freiburg eventually overtaking sixth-placed Wolfsburg, who have a brutal schedule. The Wolves still have to face Dortmund, Leverkusen, Gladbach, and Bayern in four of their last eight games.

Relegated – Werder Bremen, Paderborn

The two automatic relegation places look all sewn up at this point, with Werder Bremen and Paderborn look set for the drop.

Bremen have been in particularly awful form with just one win in their last 12 matches. They still have a game in hand, but it’s tough to see them make up the five-point gap on Fortuna Dusseldorf for that relegation play-off spot, especially with an inferior goal difference.

Top Scorer – Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski was once again on the scoresheet in the win against Union Berlin as he upped his tally for the season to 26 goals. He’s now five goals clear of Werner, who doesn’t look likely to catch up as his goals have dried up.

Lewandowski looks set to become the Bundesliga top scorer for the fifth time in his career and the third time in a row. Meanwhile, he still has eight games to get five more goals, which would set a new personal best of 31 goals in a season.

Top Assists – Jadon Sancho

Sancho is currently one assist behind Bayern’s Thomas Muller (16) for the league lead, but the Dortmund star is more than capable of making up that ground.

Dortmund still have matches against Paderborn, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Mainz, and Hoffenheim, who are in the bottom half of the table in terms of defending.

Sancho will have ample opportunities to set up his team-mates in those matches and lead the league in assists for the second successive season.

Footballer of the Year – Robert Lewandowski

Incredibly, Lewandowski has yet to be crowned Footballer of the Year in Germany despite a decade of being among the Bundesliga’s best players. But that finally changes this year.

The Pole has been hands down the top performer in the league. Werner gave him a run for his money early in the season, and Sancho has also been sensational.

But Lewandowski’s amazing consistency in front of goal has been on another level, and he fully deserves to be named Germany’s Footballer of the Year at long last.
