VfL Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig may be running out of time trying to get their maiden Bundesliga title, which is why they would need to take care of business in the next few weeks.
The Red Bulls will be facing the easier part of their schedule as they’ll lock horns with a couple of bottom seeded teams at the table, which should improve their Bundesliga 2020 odds of getting back on top.
First up, RB Leipzig are set to visit Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena this weekend.
RB Leipzig are still sitting second behind Bayern Munich who have 52 points already. Other contenders such as Borussia Dortmund and Monchengladbach are within striking distance, so they can’t afford any slip-ups.
On the other hand, after experiencing a tough stretch in the latter part of December last year, the Wolves have seen substantial improvement on their form.
They have only lost once since January and they improved to the seventh spot at the standings. Wolfsburg now have 35 points and they can overtake Schalke for the Europa League qualifiers spot if they win this Saturday.
Today, SBOBET gives you the preview of this match.
Talking Points
Wolves are on the prowl
Oliver Glasner’s men have started the month of February on a positive note as they rose to the seventh spot in the Bundesliga standings.
After losing their match against Koln and Hertha BSC in mid-January, the Wolves notched quality wins against Paderborn, Hoffenheim, and Mainz while they moved on to the Round of 16 in the Europa League after dominating Malmo twice.
Most recently, Wolfsburg almost lost against Union Berlin but Yannick Gerhardt and Wout Weghorst mounted a strong comeback in order to draw level in the end.
Speaking of Weghorst, he has been the main man for the Wolves as he leads them in scoring with 13 goals along with five assists. He is supported by topnotch midfielders in Josip Brekalo and Maximilian Arnold who have contributed 10 goals and 14 assists.
Other than their improving attack, Wolfsburg have taken their defence to a whole new level. Oliver Glasner’s men have veered away from their 4-1-4-1 to a 4-4-2 formation to make life harder for their opponents. All in all, they’ve only conceded 30 goals this season which is good for fourth overall.
The Wolves have the potential to be an up-and-coming contender in the Bundesliga. However, they would need to provide ample support for Weghorst at the front. Besides Berkalo and Arnold, I’m looking for Yannick Gerhardt to shoulder more load since he’s only got three goals this term.
RB Leipzig’s window of opportunity
Julian Nagelsmann and his men would need to take advantage of their next few matchdays in order to stay toe-to-toe with the defending champions in Bayern Munich.
At the same time, they have to learn how to close out games in order to consider themselves a worthy championship contender.
The Red Bulls had a great opportunity to narrow the gap with Bayern Munich last weekend but they were held to a draw by Bayer Leverkusen. Leon Bailey gave the visitors a first-half lead and it took a Patrik Schick equaliser just to salvage a point.
Other than their trouble closing out games, the Red Bulls would have to deal with multiple rumours surrounding their star player Timo Werner since he has been linked to Liverpool for quite some time now, as per our Bundesliga 2020 news.
These challenges continue to pile up for RB Leipzig as the season winds down. But they shouldn’t let those bother them as they try to win their first Bundesliga championship. Now is the perfect opportunity to show everyone what they’re made of.
History
The Wolves and the Red Bulls have faced each other 11 times. RB Leipzig won in six matches while Wolfsburg won in three along with two draws.
Goals are hard to come by when these two lock horns at the Volkswagen Arena. In their three previous meetings, they haven’t scored more than two goals there.
The Wolves have just won two of their last eight Bundesliga home matches. But they are undefeated in their last seven matches across all competitions.
Betting Tip
VfL Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig | RB Leipzig Asian Handicap -0.50 @1.90 | |
March 07, 22:30 (GMT+8) |
Our 1×2 market odds have RB Leipzig as the favourites at 1.90, while Wolfsburg’s chances to win and chances for a draw are both at 3.70.
The Red Bulls have the advantage because they have better quality overall than the Wolves, but the Oliver Glasner-managed squad are more than capable to pull off any upset. After all, they were able to do so against Gladbach last December.
This is expected to be a classic slugfest with the way these two teams are defending. But if there’s one team who can score goals this game, it’s the Red Bulls.
