We’re up for a big and exciting AFCON final!

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations offered top-notch football games and an emotional rollercoaster for football betting fans. Who knew that two of the nations that aren’t given the light of day by many betting websites are the players in the final?

Egypt’s entry to the final has surprised few, as their defensive brand of football helped them progress through the tournament despite the lack of a reliable striker. Cameroon’s victory over Ghana is what’s keeping many African footballing circles awake. Supporters of the Indomitable Lions are having a grand time right now.

Cameroon 2-0 Ghana

Both teams put up an entertaining match that saw both sides at least threaten to open the scoring several times. It is important to note that Cameroon got the shorter end of the stick when it came to possession and had to defend 10 Ghanian corners throughout the match.

However, it was late in the second half that the Stade de Franceville crowd got to see some action: Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui capitalised on Ghana’s defensive error in the 72nd minute to put Cameroon ahead.

The Black Stars, with the Ayew brothers leading the attack, tried their best to catch up and push the game to extra time at the very least. However, Christian Bassogog sealed his country’s win deep in added time with a fine shot to finish Cameroon’s superb counter late in the game.

Cameroon boss Hugo Broos is understandably happy with the result: “It is a real dream for us to get to the final. Ghana have more experience than us – look at what they have done in recent tournaments. But since the start of this tournament, we have shown we keep going right to the end in every game.

“I am very happy, especially for the team. They are an exemplary group on and off the field and they deserve to be in the final.”

Ghana manager Avram Grant was visibly upset with the result. “I am more than unhappy,” he said. “We wanted so much to be in the final.”

“We did everything to be there, and in the second half, we completely dominated. Congratulations to Cameroon, of course, but we were the better side and we lost.”

The Black Stars will meet Burkina Faso for the third place play-off, while Cameroon will be preparing for an interesting match against Egypt.
