“It feels good just to be able to play for another game,” James said. “Like I’ve always said, Game 7 is the best two words in sports. … We should relish the opportunity and have fun with it.”
Klopp believes Liverpool are back to dominate Europe
Liverpool are enjoying a fantastic second season under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds had resounding success, coming third after the Manchester clubs of United and City. Their very impressive attacking core of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have helped the Reds reach the Champions League final, where they face an indomitable foe in Real Madrid.
Fans think that Liverpool will be up for a tough ride because Cristiano Ronaldo and Los Blancos have always performed well on Europe’s biggest stage. Moreover, their last appearance in the Champions League final was back in 2007.
However, the German coach is more than confident that his Reds can bring the fight to Zinedine Zidane and his Real Madrid. He keeps on repeating that Liverpool are back in the conversation. With the way the Reds have performed over the past 12 months, it’s hard not to believe him.
“Nobody expected us to be here, but we are because we are Liverpool,” said Klopp.
“I am pretty sure, in the second before the game, Real Madrid will be more confident than we are but the game doesn’t end in that second, it only starts.
“This club has it in its DNA that it can really go for the big things.”
Rabiot trade barbs with Deschamps over France snub
Adrien Rabiot is not among the final 23-man squad Didier Deschamps will take to Russia and was instead added to Les Bleus’ standby list for the tournament. The 23-year-old is reportedly disappointed with the appointment to the point that he withdrew his eligibility for the tournament.
Deschamps was understandably puzzled and upset that the PSG man took himself out of the standby list and omit himself from Russia.
The France manager said: “I was obviously surprised. I can understand his immense disappointment but I’m convinced he made a huge mistake. Hopefully, it will help him grow up and think.”
However, Rabiot was quick to fire back at Deschamps, who painted him as an immature player with only a few caps to his name.
“I suspected the impact of my decision, but I regret to be caricatured as a young immature player unable to measure the scope of his actions,” Rabiot said.
“If I decided to withdraw from the list of alternates, it is because I consider that the choice of the coach towards me does not answer any sporting logic because for all these years the message was clear, it is the performances in a club which open the doors of the national team.”
Rabiot was a fantastic player for the Ligue 1 champions this season. He bagged five assists and had a 92% pass completion rate in 27 games for the Parisiens. His outstanding form for PSG more than qualifies him to be included at the club.
