Cleveland Cavaliers 120-129 Golden State Warriors
It’s inevitable. After the Warriors won the Kevin Durant sweepstakes last summer, even the hardcore sports betting fan knew they would win the NBA Championship.
Big props to LeBron James and crew for stopping what could have been a perfect postseason run for Golden State and providing a little bit of live betting drama.
However, that doesn’t matter now as it is the Warriors lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy.
In the end, the Cavs just don’t have enough to completely turn around the betting odds and stay alive for at least one more game.
NBA Finals MVP Durant was just too much for them. Anchoring the offence with 39 points on an efficient 70 percent shooting, he proved why he deserves a ring. He also became just the sixth player to score more than 30 points in each game of a finals.
Meanwhile, it’s total redemption for Steph Curry after his choke job in the 2016 NBA Finals. Many questioned his ability to play in big games, and this match was his answer to his critics as he finished with a double-double of 34 points and 10 assists.
The same goes for Draymond Green who was suspended in Game 5 last year. And with his 10 points and 12 boards coupled with his solid defence, he could argue that the Cavs just got lucky with his absence last year.
LeBron, of course, gave it his all for Cleveland. He had another near triple-double performance with 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight dimes as the Cavs appeared to be staging another upset early.
Nonetheless, the King’s effort went in vain as they weren’t able to maintain their lead, failing to stop Golden State’s offensive barrage both from the three and the painted area.
Kyrie Irving did well with 26 points, but Kevin Love was a no-show with just six points.
It also didn’t help the Cavs that their reserves combined for only seven points – a surprising figure incomparable to the Dubs’ 35 led by Andre Iguodala who sparked the bench unit with 20 markers.
The two teams were level against each other for the most part, with Durant and James trading basket after another. The Cavs also managed to cut the deficit to just three by the start of the final quarter, only to fall short and run out of gas.
The victory marks the Warriors’ second championship in three years, clinching the series 4-1.
“We prevailed, we are champions and it was amazing to do it on our own floor,” Durant said after the finals.
