After ending their long Premier League title drought last term, Arsenal haven’t done much in the summer transfer window, which has some of their fans worried about their Premier League 2026 odds of a repeat. As of this writing, the Gunners have only added three players, which is as many as they’ve lost.
However, Arsenal seem to have a greater sense of urgency in that regard in the past few days, as they’ve been linked to several Brazilian World Cup stars. It remains to be seen if those deals will come to fruition, so SBOTOP football fans should watch this space.
Meanwhile, two former Manchester United teammates are in awkward situations, as their plans haven’t gone to plan. This leaves them no choice but to make the most of their current situations this upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

Arsenal reportedly have two stars on their radar
Arsenal’s activity this summer transfer window hasn’t been exciting (compared to some of their rivals). So far, the Gunners have activated their buy option on Piero Hincapie to sign him permanently from Bayer Leverkusen and give him a five-year contract, while acquiring Ilian Meslier on a free transfer and paying €40 million to get Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. Adding Tzolis was necessary, as Arsenal sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for €18 million. Mikel Arteta’s side also parted ways with Karl Hein and Jakub Kiwior, recouping €21 million.
Most recently, Arsenal have been sensationally linked to Vinicius Jr. and Bruno Guimaraes, who played well for Brazil in the recently concluded World Cup. Vinicius Jr. has entered the final year of his deal at Real Madrid, while Guimaraes is reportedly growing disillusioned with Newcastle United.
Vinicius Jr. has been linked to a move away from the Bernabeu after Real Madrid recently completed their shocking acquisition of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig – whom they reportedly paid roughly €100 million. If Arsenal are serious about the 26-year-old star, the club would likely have to make him the club’s highest-paid player, earning more than £300,000 per week.
On the other hand, Arsenal are predicted to table a £70 million bid for Guimaraes, but Newcastle United would likely reject the initial bid.
Garnacho seeks clean slate at Aston Villa
Alejandro Garnacho’s once-promising career has taken a turn for the worse, as he’s been pushed out of Chelsea only a year after his unceremonious exit at Manchester United. This time, it’s Aston Villa’s turn to take a chance on the 22-year-old winger.
Aston Villa have agreed to sign Garnacho on loan from Chelsea. The deal includes a conditional obligation to buy, which is considered easily achievable. The Blues reportedly wanted £42.6 million for Garnacho, and the Villans can match the package.
The Villans needed a winger after they sold Donyell Malen and Morgan Rogers to AS Roma and Chelsea, respectively, earning roughly €163 million. Head coach Unai Emery reportedly believes that he can optimise the young Argentine’s potential after a down 2025-26 season, in which he registered only one goal and four assists in 24 league appearances.
In addition to acquiring Garnacho, Aston Villa also brought in Joao Gomes, Johan Manzambi, and Modou Keba Cisse from Wolves, SC Freiburg, and LASK, respectively, spending €105.5 million. Manzambi drastically boosted his stock during his World Cup run with Switzerland, while Gomes has been one of the Premier League’s most underrated midfielders and Cisse is expected to be a developmental project.
Rashford will likely start fresh with Manchester United
Marcus Rashford is expected to reunite with Manchester United this upcoming season, barring any unforeseen transfers. The 28-year-old forward is fresh from a successful loan stint with Barcelona, who inexplicably didn’t offer him a permanent deal.
Rashford was supposed to secure a permanent deal with Barcelona after he recorded eight league goals and seven assists last term to help them win the 2025-26 La Liga championship. However, for some reason, Hansi Flick’s side paid €80 million to pry Anthony Gordon away from Newcastle United, leaving them with less money to sign Rashford.
Rashford had a £40 million exit clause, which interested suitors would’ve triggered. But no one did it, and the clause has expired, meaning any potential transfer must now be fully negotiated among all parties.
The good news for Rashford is that head coach Michael Carrick is reportedly keen on reintegrating him into the mix. However, he’ll face significant competition on his preferred left wing, with Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu in his way.
