Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayer Leverkusen are searching for home comfort when they host Eintracht Frankfurt this Saturday at the BayArena.
Die Werkself have been through a lot during these past few weeks here in the Bundesliga, and their form has suffered since they are winless in three of their last five matches.
They have slipped to the sixth spot at the table with 47 points and the betting odds here at SBOTOP don’t see them finishing the season with a European qualification spot.
Meanwhile, in stark contrast, Eintracht Frankfurt are closing in to securing their Champions League berth. They have been one of the hottest teams in the league with four wins out of their last five and they are at fourth place with 56 points.
With the high stakes involved, expect both of these clubs to go hard at each other especially if you’ll look at their most recent encounters.
Bayer Leverkusen dominated Eintracht Frankfurt during their previous meeting in the second round of the DFB Pokal last January, but can they do it again with their backs against the wall this time around?
Talking Points
Time is running out for Bayer Leverkusen
These last few weeks make you wonder on whether Bayer Leverkusen still have enough left in the tank.
Because of their sudden decline since standing on top of the German top-flight standings last Christmas, Die Werkself felt that they needed a change as they appointed Hannes Wolf to replace Peter Bosz.
But even with the coaching change, things stayed the same for Leverkusen since they continue to have subpar Bundesliga 2021 results.
Bayer Leverkusen are fresh from a brutal beating at the hands of Bayern Munich yesterday as their defence was relentlessly exploited by the defending champions. The Bavarians had 24 total shots with eight of them on target, while Die Werkself only had seven total and four on target.
What’s even worse for Leverkusen is that their backline will be left for exposure once more because of injuries to their key players.
Lars Bender’s injured thigh has been nagging him for quite some time now while Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Julian Baumgartlinger are still recovering from ACL injuries that they sustained earlier this year.
They do have a potent attacking front with Moussa Diaby, Lucas Alario, and Patrik Schick leading the way. However, that alone won’t be enough to subdue Eintracht Frankfurt.
Mission is almost accomplished for Eintracht Frankfurt
After years of missing out, this time around, the Eagles are in firm control as they march towards securing a Champions League spot.
Silva has been the talisman for the Eagles’ rise since he has already put in 24 goals and four assists in 28 appearances. He is the league’s second leading scorer behind Robert Lewandowski and he is now a few goals away from surpassing a club milestone.
The Portuguese striker is on pace to break Bernd Holzenbein’s record for most goals in a single season for Frankfurt (26) – a record that has lasted for 44 years.
Other than Silva, Leverkusen would also have to deal with Luka Jovic and Daichi Kamada, who have accounted for nine goals and 11 assists this term.
History
Regardless of what will happen in this fixture, Bayer Leverkusen will have some sense of consolation knowing that they have the slight edge in the overall head-to-heads against Eintracht Frankfurt.
In their last 27 meetings, Die Werkself have won 14 games, while the Eagles have won 10 times along with three draws.
During the second round of the DFB Pokal, Bayer Leverkusen crushed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 as Moussa Diaby had a brace while Edmond Tapsoba and Lucas Alario scored one goal apiece to spark the comeback.
In their previous meeting in the Bundesliga days before that, however, Frankfurt were the better team as they had a 2-1 victory through an own goal from Edmond Tapsoba and Amin Younes’ first-half score.
Betting Tip
Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt | Eintracht Frankfurt Asian Handicap 0.00 @ 2.19 | |
April 25, 00:30 (GMT+8) |
The Bundesliga 2021 odds confirm that this match is going to be as close as it gets.
Bayer Leverkusen get the slight nod as they’re priced at 2.37, whereas Eintracht Frankfurt are pegged at 2.78 and chances for a draw are at 3.45 in the 1X2 market.
This fixture can go either way. But in the end, Eintracht Frankfurt could just edge Bayer Leverkusen simply because they are the healthier team and they have been playing much better on both ends of the pitch.
