Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich
Eintracht Frankfurt have been the most in-form team in the Bundesliga since the start of 2021. The Eagles have won eight of their last nine games, which has seen them soar to third in the standings.
However, Frankfurt will face by far the biggest threat to their unbeaten run as reigning champions Bayern Munich come to visit the Deutsche Bank Park.
After claiming the Club World Cup in Qatar, Bayern had a bit of a hangover as they drew 3-3 at home against relegation-threatened Arminia Bielefeld.
But the Bundesliga 2021 betting odds still have Bayern heavily favoured to bounce back over Frankfurt, who will give them all they can handle.
Talking Points
Frankfurt can’t stop winning
Eintracht Frankfurt’s fantastic form in 2021 continues. The Eagles have won eight of their nine league matches this calendar year, seven of which have been by two or more goals.
Granted, most of their wins have come against teams in the bottom half of the table, but they did beat fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 at home during that stretch.
Andre Silva has been in sensational goalscoring form of late. The Portuguese striker has scored six goals in his last four matches and now has 18 goals on the season, second only to Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski in the Bundesliga scoring charts.
Meanwhile, Filip Kostic has also been creating several Bundesliga 2021 highlights. The Serbian playmaker has two goals and five assists in his last four appearances.
Frankfurt also have on-loan Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic in reserve. The 23-year-old has contributed three goals since returning from Spain.
And aside from having such talented attackers, Frankfurt have also been rock-solid at the back, particularly at home. They have conceded just 11 goals in their 10 home games.
Frankfurt won just once in their first six games at the Deutsch Bank Park this season but have since won the last four in a row.
Bayern still looking shaky at the back
Bayern Munich had a great week after their Club World Cup triumph and the confirmation of top centre-back Dayot Upamecano’s signing. However, they were brought back down to earth by newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld, who held the world champions to a 3-3 draw.
Arminia took a shock 2-0 lead in the first half, but Bayern fought back in the second half to salvage a point.
Bayern’s defending has been a big issue all season, which is likely a major reason why they targeted Upamecano. They have already conceded 29 goals his season, which is tied with Frankfurt for sixth in the league.
David Alaba, who has confirmed he will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season, had to fill in at central midfield against Bielefeld with Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez still unavailable. However, both are back in training and are returning to full fitness.
Bayern also have some issues in attack, with Thomas Muller out due to Covid and Serge Gnabry picking up an injury in the Club World Cup final.
But as long as Robert Lewandowski is in the line-up, Bayern still have goals in them. The Polish superstar is now up to 25 goals in 20 games this season after scoring against Arminia.
History
Bayern have been absolutely dominant in recent league meetings against Frankfurt. They have won 19 of their last 26 matches, with the Frankfurt winning just three.
Bayern have won seven of the last eight matches against the Eagles, scoring four or more goals in four of them. That includes back-to-back games with five goals in wins at the Allianz Arena. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win in their first meeting this season.
Although, Frankfurt have claimed two massive wins over Bayern in the last three years. The first was their famous DFB-Pokal final triumph in 2018, spearheaded by then-manager Niko Kovac. Then, they stunned Bayern 5-1 at home in 2019, which marked the end of Kovac’s time in charge of Bayern.

Even with Eintracht Frankfurt’s fine form, SBOTOP odds still have Bayern Munich installed as massive 1.77 favourites to win. Frankfurt are priced at 4.00 to win at home, while a draw is not far behind at 3.95.
There are a lot of things going against Bayern in this match, though. Muller’s potential absence is huge, and the defensive issues are hard to overlook. Then there’s Frankfurt, who have the firepower to exploit those defensive weaknesses and a solid backline that can keep Bayern at bay.
Moreover, Bayern begin their Champions League round of 16 tie with Lazio in midweek, which could heavily influence Hansi Flick’s team selection.
With all of those factors in mind, I’m leaning toward Eintracht Frankfurt to have just about enough to keep their unbeaten run intact at home.
