After a successful run in the recently concluded Austrian Grand Prix, we head on over to Hungaroring to witness the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The said event is the third part of a triple-header to kick off the restart of the 2020 F1 season – with both the Austrian and Steiermark Grand Prix tours already done and over with just last week.
Mercedes hold the upper hand over the competition given Valtteri Bottas’ and Lewis Hamilton’s recent string of performances in Austria. But there is ample time for the others to catch up since it is still early in the season.

Lando Norris making his presence felt
The 20-year-old driver pulled off one of the more shocking highlights recently when he ended up in the podium during the Austrian Grand Prix.
Then it was followed up later with another stirring performance when Norris finished 5th in the Steiermark Grand Prix a few days later.
Through his clever driving and better control of his car, the young British international did some impressive overtakes during the closing stages in both races, which further solidifies his already decent rookie campaign.
Lando Norris continues to be a pleasant surprise for McLaren, who aren’t really expected to do anything significant as far as the 2020 Formula One season is concerned.
On the other hand, Carlos Sainz Jr. didn’t do so well in the last time out due to a late pit stop problem.
But overall, McLaren should be applauded for maximising their current drivers with a string of favourable results lately.
And with Norris getting better each day, expect the British outfit to continue to lean on their young star, especially with Carlos Sainz Jr. leaving for the Scudetto next year.
“We know we can’t get ahead of ourselves only two races into the season. It’s been a great start but now we need to try and maintain our momentum and fight for the best possible points,” said Norris.
Red Bull ready to take charge
After a lacklustre outing in Austria, Red Bull Racing are more than eager to build some semblance of momentum in Hungaroring.
With Max Verstappen desperate for points after his DNF in the first round and Alexander Albon struggling with his car, Red Bull are hopeful to recapture their imperious form in the same arena last year to get themselves going.
It can be remembered that in last year’s edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen virtually led the entire race, only to be upended by Lewis Hamilton in the end.
But even if they lost at the time, the Red Bulls appear to be optimistic this time around. They believe that they can finally bring one home after learning lessons from last year.
“I’m looking forward to Hungary. It is a different and slightly more technical circuit to the Red Bull Ring and offers us another great opportunity,” said Red Bull principal Christian Horner.
“Mercedes have shown some great form there in recent years but last year, Max scored our first pole at the track using Honda power, so it will be another interesting weekend and we are fully focused on the task in hand,” he added.
Mercedes picking up right where they left off
The Silver Arrows continue to fly high in Formula One – with Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton turning in some of the finest performances so far in this 2020 season.
Bottas heads into the third round with a six-point lead, and the Finnish driver will be keen to maintain his great start to the season.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton will also try to reclaim the top spot as he’ll be playing cat-and-mouse with his teammate. But if his performance in round two is any indication, it just goes to show that the Briton is ready to put on a show.
No Formula One driver has won more times in Hungary than Lewis Hamilton, so he and Bottas are expected to be in the podium while producing some of the best Hungarian Grand Prix 2020 highlights.
History
Lewis Hamilton owns the record for most wins in Hungary – with seven wins in over the last 13 years.
The first ever Hungarian Grand Prix was held on June 1936 in a five-kilometre park near in Budapest. But due to politics and conflict, eventually, the race was moved to the Hungaroring 50 years later.
Tazio Nuvolari won the first ever Hungarian Grand Prix and Nelson Piquet was the second-ever winner back in 1986 and 1987.
What are the odds?
Given Lewis Hamilton’s dominance in the Hungaroring, of course he is the hot favourite to win it come Sunday. He is priced at 1.35 and his teammate in Bottas is only at 2.72.
Interestingly, Charles Leclerc is priced at 1.52 while Max Verstappen is priced at 1.50. And if these two can turn in a fine performance this weekend, they might pose a huge threat to the Mercedes duo.
