SC Freiburg vs Bayer Leverkusen
Two sides jostling for the Europa League spots are set to clash as Bayer Leverkusen visit SC Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion this Saturday evening.
As it stands now at the Bundesliga table, Bayer Leverkusen are placed at fifth and are level with Borussia Monchengladbach with 53 points while SC Freiburg stand at the seventh spot with 38 points.
While the disparity between these two teams are sizeable enough to draw the line, there are still enough games for the home team to try and catch up for a chance to possibly overtake Bayer Leverkusen.
SC Freiburg are coming off a six-goal thrilling draw against Eintracht Frankfurt while Bayer Leverkusen were shocked by VfL Wolfsburg after blowing away Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach since the league resumed.
These two teams, along with Schalke 04 and VfL Wolfsburg are in hot pursuit for the Europa League, so gathering as much points as they can will be the main objective in the next few matchdays.
For today, SBOBET examines these two clubs to see how they would match up this weekend.
Talking Points
SC Freiburg’s gunners slowly regaining their form
Coming out of the mandated break due to the coronavirus pandemic, Freiburg have yet to lose in their last four Bundesliga matches.
The Christian Streich-managed squad scored victories against Union Berlin and Werder Bremen in convincing fashion while they drew level against RB Leipzig and against Eintracht Frankfurt in the last time out.
It’s quite an encouraging start for the team especially with their Europa League ambitions. And if they can continue their decent form, who knows what could happen?
A huge part of their resurgence is their attack finding its form with Nils Petersen and Lucas Holer have snapped their individual funks.
Particularly in their match against Eintracht Frankfurt, Petersen ended his nine-match goal drought as he scored for the first time since mid-January. Holer, on the other hand, was on target for the first time in 14 games, which was the longest drought for his career.
Nils Petersen leads the team in the attack with nine goals and two assists while Lucas Holer have five goals and two assists of his own too. These two forwards will be crucial for Christian Streich’s side as they gear up for another run.
Another player that will definitely help the club is Vincenzo Grifo. The 27-year-old put out a fine performance in the last match when he scored his first goal in 2020. Grifo already has three goals and five assists as of this writing.
Goals are going to be much needed for this team to get to the next level. So far, they are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league with only 38 goals.
Bayer Leverkusen raring to bounce back
Die Werkself had an uncharacteristic showing when they were ambushed by VfL Wolfsburg last week.
Their defence was simply horrid as they’ve conceded four goals, especially with some of Wolfsburg’s newer players doing the damage.
Marin Pongracic scored his first Bundesliga goals despite being a centre-back while Maxi Arnold and Renato Steffen provided enough cushion when they found the back of the net too.
It was Bayer’s heaviest defeat with Peter Bosz as their team manager, and for sure they will be keen on brushing this off come Saturday.
German sensation Kai Havertz will be tasked once more to lead the squad at the attack. The 20-year-old striker leads Bayer Leverkusen in scoring with 13 goals and seven assists – making him one of the brightest young talents in all over Europe.
With Kevin Volland still out indefinitely, Karim Bellarabi and Moussa Diaby are expected to take turns in shouldering the load to help Kai Havertz.
History
Bayer Leverkusen have dominated SC Freiburg in their overall head-to-heads as they’ve won 17 out of 33 times. SC Freiburg won in six along with 10 draws.
If you look at the trend of their recent encounters, it is safe to say that goals aren’t expected to be abundant in this upcoming match as neither scored more than two in their last four games.
Kai Havertz wasn’t around when these two clubs faced off last November due to an injury. He is expected to produce some of the best Bundesliga 2020 highlights this Saturday.

Our Bundesliga 2020 odds favour the road team for this game. Bayer Leverkusen are priced at 1.80 while SC Freiburg are pegged at an underwhelming odds of 4.30. A draw is placed at 3.60.
Save for their lacklustre outing against Wolfsburg, Die Werkself’s form has been spectacular over these last few games. They are, after all, considered as one of the dark horses in the Bundesliga,
SC Freiburg have the personnel that can make life difficult for Bayer Leverkusen. However, it would be hard to imagine them outscoring the visitors on this one.
