Premier League: Mourinho’s Spurs Ready to Rock the Cherries

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth

Jose Mourinho’s reign at Tottenham has got off to a strong start. After beating West Ham United in the Special One’s opening match, they bounced back from a shaky first half to overcome Olympiakos 4-2 in the Champions League. That win secured Spurs’ spot in the last 16 of the competition.

Now, it’s time for Mou’s men to focus on the Premier League, where they are still wallowing in 10th place. They will look to jump a few more places as they take on the side directly below them in the table, Bournemouth.

The Cherries have lost two games on the bounce, and the Premier League 2019 betting odds won’t be in their favour as they visit a Spurs side that’s slowly starting to regain confidence.

Talking Points

Mourinho making his presence felt

The new manager bounce is in full effect at Tottenham. After a disastrous stretch of five matches without a win in the league, they put together one of their best performances against West Ham.

And while they were quite poor in the first half at home against Olympiakos, it was still notable that they fought back to win, 4-2.

During that match, Mourinho displayed his trademark ruthless streak for the first time at Tottenham as he yanked Eric Dier after just half an hour. While he publicly apologised to Dier, it no doubt sent a message that Mou means business.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been two of the standout performers through the first two games of Mourinho’s reign. Kane has continued his fine goalscoring form with three goals in those two games. Meanwhile, Alli is back to creating Premier League 2019 highlights and has a goal and an assist to his name.

But while the offence has looked good, Mourinho likely won’t be pleased by conceding two goals in each of his first two matches. Although, the potential return of Jan Vertonghen could help. The veteran centre-back was on the bench against Olympiakos after a hamstring injury kept since October.

Tanguy Ndombele has also returned to training after a groin injury and could be in line to partner Harry Winks at the heart of Spurs’ midfield.

Bournemouth battling injury issues

Bournemouth are in the midst of quite a slump. They’ve lost their last two on the bounce against Newcastle and Wolves. And over the course of the last seven matches, they’ve won just once (three draws, three losses).

Manager Eddie Howe hasn’t been helped by the fact that he has several injury concerns to deal with. Forwards Dominic Solanke and Josh King are both out, leaving Callum Wilson the lone striking option available. Fellow attacking players David Brooks and Junior Stanislas are also missing.

They also have absentees at the back with defender Simon Francis suspended after his red card last week. Left-back Charlie Daniels is also out, while midfielder Andrew Surman is a doubt.

Bournemouth’s defence has been one of their strong points this season. They’ve conceded just 17 goals, which is seventh-best in the league. Their problem has been scoring enough goals. Callum Wilson is doing his part with five goals, but with all of their current absentees, they could find it tough to overcome a suddenly free-scoring Tottenham side.

History

Tottenham have not had too many problems facing Bournemouth over the years. They’ve met eight times in total, with Spurs winning seven of them. That includes five wins by three or more goals.

However, the Cherries finally ended Tottenham’s run of dominance against them last year when they ran out 1-0 winners at home.

Although, it should be noted that Spurs were down to just nine men for nearly half the match after Son Heung-Min and Juan Foyth were sent off and that Bournemouth still needed a stoppage-time goal to beat them.

Speaking of Son, he has a fine record against Bournemouth, scoring five goals in his last five appearances against them.

Betting Tip

??
Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth Over 3.00 Goals @ 1.81
November 30, 23:00 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Spurs as significant 1.39 favourites to grab all three points at home. Bournemouth are priced at 7.10 to pull off a major upset away from home, while a draw is 4.70.

But based on Spurs’ recent penchant for high-scoring affairs, I’m going with the total number of goals to go over 3.00. Tottenham usually scores a lot of goals at home against Bournemouth — they’ve scored 13 in four Premier League home games while conceding none.

I expect more of the same in this contest. And even with all of Bournemouth’s absentees in attack, Tottenham’s slumping defence has shown it’s capable of conceding at least once.
