Manchester City vs Leicester City
Two games to go in the best Premier League title race in years, and there is just a single point in it at the top. And when Manchester City hosts Leicester City on Monday night they could be playing catch up again.
If Liverpool wins in Newcastle on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s men will go two points clear to put the pressure back on the Sky Blues. But pressure doesn’t seem to affect this team, and when they go fox hunting they will fully expect to overcome their prey.
Not that Leicester will roll over for a minute. The Foxes have been rejuvenated under Brendan Rodgers and still have an outside chance of reaching a Europa League place. But the Sky Blues have been relentless in their pursuit of back-to-back league titles and they will be ready for the next challenge.
Talking Points
Sane is the rhythm man
With the lead at the top of the league changing twice weekly, as Manchester City and Liverpool trade blow for blow, everyone has been waiting to see who slips up first. But both teams are holding their nerve and if Pep Guardiola guides his team to two more victories, they could leave the Reds in second place on a massive 97 points.
The Sky Blues recent wins over Spurs and Manchester United have turned the odds very much their way, and as SBOBET Premier League fans will know, the champions are now as low as 1.20 to retain their title.
The Etihad front men have been outstanding. Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s top scorer with 20 goals while Raheem Sterling has 17. Leroy Sane has played a crucial part in the Sky Blues’ phenomenal run and has accumulated ten league goals and ten assists. Pep Guardiola relies on the wing man to give his side rhythm, as he did when he came on as a second half substitute in the recent Manchester derby win.
City had to draw on all their reserves to beat a stubborn Burnley side last Sunday and needed goal-line technology to ease their nerves when Sergio Aguero’s winner was adjudged to be 29mm over the line. Bernardo Silva was in spectacular form at Turf Moor and he’s sure to start again on Monday, while City will be without the injured Kevin de Bruyne.
Whether or not they’ll be watching the Premier League 2019 updates on Saturday evening, when Liverpool visits Newcastle, the reigning champions know exactly what they need to do on Monday.
Vardy back to his best
The latest Manchester City vs Leicester City betting odds, with the hosts at 1.17 to win point to a regulation home win… but I wouldn’t be so sure.
Make no mistake; the Foxes will give the Sky Blues a few problems, as Arsenal will testify, having been thumped 3-0 at the Kingpower Stadium last week. Jamie Vardy seems to be back to his best. He’s a nightmare for defenders and has now scored 18 for the season. He’s enjoying life under Rodgers and Pep is under no illusions of the threat he poses. He says: “His career speaks for itself. He has done incredible in this league. He’s an incredible striker; his movement, finishing, fighting.
“It helps that before Leicester were a counter-attacking team and he could make runs in behind. Now with Brendan Rodgers, they have added another way to play.
“I saw their last three games and I was really impressed. The players know it will be an incredible task for us.”
Indeed, the Foxes have taken 13 points from the last six games and are in no mood to let up now.
History
In the 22 matches played in the Premier League era Manchester City has had the edge, with 12 victories to Leicester’s six and there have been four draws.
Leicester had a surprise victory in the return match during the Sky Blues Christmas blip, at a time when the Foxes weren’t really firing. It was a second successive defeat for Pep’s City but that seems a long time ago now. It serves as a warning though.
Manchester City’s home record this season is 17 wins and one defeat and the Sky Blues are on a five match winning streak.
Betting Tip
Manchester City vs Leicester City | 2-3 Goals @ 2.50 | |
May 07, 03:00 (GMT+8) |
With Manchester City at 1.17, the draw at 6.60 and Leicester at 15.00, anything other than a home win would be a major surprise, and would spark wild celebrations on Merseyside!
I think they will win, but I can’t see a goal fest, more the type of clinical performance we’re getting used to, and the approach that will win Pep’s boys the league.
