The Transfer Window Can Be Just Madness

Premier League football games may have concluded for another season but if they offered betting odds on who will move where – for both players and managers – it would be a truly live betting bonanza.

Few people realise that the transfer window is actually already open, a week earlier than normal, and it won’t be too long before the first signing is made.

In a matter of days since the campaign drew to a close, four clubs have already parted company with managers, Sam Allardyce, David Moyes, Paul Lambert and Carlos Carvalhal departing Everton, West Ham and relegated duo Stoke City and Swansea respectively.

So will it be a new managerial appointment or a new arrival on the playing side that is the first deal of the close season?

We already know that RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita will head to Liverpool in July but who will join the Guinea midfielder in making big-money summer moves?

If reports are to be believed the first move could involve the dug-out with former Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini strongly linked with the West Ham job.

Then again, who isn’t!

Speculation also continues to link Thierry Henry with a possible return to the Premier League as Arsenal hunt for a replacement for the long-serving Arsene Wenger.

After being relegated, Johnny Evans is almost certain to leave West Brom and Arsenal – supposedly interested in recent transfer windows – are once again being linked, as are champions Man City, although their January signing of Aymeric Laporte may deem such a pursuit unnecessary.

And then there’s Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon, set to retire from Juventus this weekend but linked with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool heavily associated with the 40 year-old.

My tip is don’t be surprised if he stays in Turin in a coaching capacity.

The name Kwadwo Asamoah is linked with Chelsea and Everton, although if the Juventus man fancies a move to England he will probably want to wait to see who fills the managerial hotseat in replace of Allardyce and, possibly, Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

If Aston Villa fail to get promoted, will Jack Grealish be tempted to move up a division or will he stay loyal to his home club who have persevered during his ups and downs?

If fellow play-off finalists Fulham miss out, will they be able to keep the big hitters from snatching teenager wonder Ryan Sessegnon?

Likewise, will Middlesbrough’s failed promotion attempt mean Adama Traore return to the top flight with a different club?

Then there is Fred, the Brazilian who helps make Shakhtar Donetsk tick, once again rumoured to be under the radar of both Manchester clubs.

So much speculation, so many column inches and internet pages populated by rumours – surely some of it is true!

And it’s still only May.

Let the transfer merry go-round begin!
